Android version distribution over the years, now in animated form

According to Google’s latest report on Android versions, Lollipop is nearly at the 30% mark while Marshmallow has yet to score its first percent. While we watch the monthly pie charts with interest, they omit the story of how we got here.

This animated version of Android releases over the years does a much better job of this. It shows how new versions grow eagerly, while old versions are reluctant to leave. Watch out for the blue segment of the 2.3.x branch – that’s the long-lived Gingerbread, which took years to fade into oblivion.

There’s even an app so that you can watch this on your Android phone if you want to be…

Who owns these jumbo jets? This Malaysian airport wants to know

Uh, did someone leave three jumbo jets behind?

Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) wants the owners of three unclaimed Boeing 747-200F planes to come collect them.

The airport operator took out a notice on Monday in the classifieds sections of English daily The Star and Chinese paper Sin Chew, saying that the owners of the planes have 14 days to collect the aircraft. After the two weeks is up, KLIA will dispose of them or sell them to offset the expenses incurred during this period of unauthorised parking, it said in its notice.

Yahoo reportedly rules out Alibaba spinoff

Looks like the Yahoo board is more interested in selling the company’s core business. According to a report from CNBC, the board has ruled out the other option – spinning off the company’s investment in Alibaba, which is currently worth over $30 billion.

Although the report said that Yahoo’s assessment of its Internet business as well as the company’s stake in Yahoo Japan could take “a year or more,” it noted that an official announcement on the matter could be made as soon as Wednesday.

What changes to the U.S. visa waiver program mean for travelers

Don’t say Republicans and Democrats can’t agree on anything.

A bipartisan majority in the U.S. House of Representatives voted Tuesday to make changes to the Visa Waiver Program, which currently makes it possible for citizens from 38 approved countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without first applying for a visa. The vote was 407-19.

One of the key features of H.R. 158, or the Visa Waiver Program Improvement Act of 2015, is that it adds “terrorism risk” as a factor for evaluating whether a foreign traveler should be allowed in the country.

Newly released image reveals how dolphins 'see' people

In a scientific first, researchers have just reproduced what a dolphin saw as it encountered a male diver.

This “what the dolphin saw” image of the submerged man reveals that dolphin echolocation results in fairly detailed images. What’s more, it’s now thought that dolphins may share such images with each other as part of a previously unknown marine mammal language.
