Belgian government advised subway shutdown just before station attack

Belgium’s government sought to contain criticism of its handling of the Brussels attacks on Sunday but acknowledged that neglect over decades had caused deficiencies that have hampered an effective response to violent extremism.

Interior Minister Jan Jambon said the government has invested 600 million euros ($670 million) into police and security services over the past two years but said its antiquated justice system and security services were still lagging behind.

Jambon, whose offer to resign on Thursday was declined by the prime minister, said errors were made prior to the Mar. 22 suicide bombing attacks in Brussels that killed at least 31 people and wounded 270 others. …

Week 12 in review: iPhone SE, iPad Pro, HTC 10

Another week flew by and we once again and it had no shortage of exciting mobile news to offer. Apple held its scheduled event and, as expected, outed a pair of new devices, both highly intriguing. The iPhone SE is a reboot of the 4-inch form factor, which isn’t enjoying universal appeal in 2016, but other than that, the pocked-friendly phone seems to have checked all many boxes, offering an up to date platform and camera. It will fill in for the now discontinued iPhone 5s.

As for the new iPad Pro, the exact title match with its 12.9-inch sibling seems to be the least of its problems….

Top 10 trending phones of the week

This week was dramatic for our Top 10 Trending phones chart as the iPhone SE led Apple phones on a charge against the Galaxys, which usually dominate.

The Apple iPhone SE shot up into the stratosphere with double the weekly interest of the Galaxy S7 and close to three times the eyeballs that the Galaxy S7 edge pulled in.

But things actually started last week with the iPhone 5s. It broke into the Top 10 again last week at #9, we guess people were comparing it against the rumored spec of the SE. Now that the iPhone SE is official, the comparisons intensified leading the 5s up to the…

The Fangirl Returns: 'Batman v Superman' not as bad as feared, still terrible

Warning: Batman v Superman spoilers follow.

Not long ago I wrote about my fears for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now I’ve seen it, and the verdict is in: Batman v Superman wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been, but man was it bad.

The bright side

Not everything about this movie was terrible. I’m a fan of the cast. Just like in Man of Steel, Amy Adams’ Lois and Diane Lane’s Martha Kent were wonderful, and both Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were good. Holly Hunter’s Senator Finch was woefully underused, and though …

Ming-Chi Kuo: 2017 iPhone will ditch metal design for glass, add AMOLED display, wireless charging and more

With Apple having just taken off the wraps off the new iPhone SE alongside the 9.7-inch edition of the iPad Pro, we’ll probably have to wait until the fall to see what Cupertino has in store for its next flagship smartphone. As ever, there’s already been plenty of speculation as to what the fruit company may or may not be including with year’s model, and resident Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo has once again been at the heart of it. Now, the KGI Securities analyst believes that the iPhone line could be set for a major overhaul next year, including a departure from the largely metallic finish and a possible … – Source
