France overturns burkini ban after global outrage

After worldwide condemnation, France’s top administrative court overturned a ban on the Muslim swimwear item, the burkini, in one French town.

The ban of the burkini, which covers a woman’s head and body, on French Riviera beaches has been a topic of much conversation in recent weeks. It has also caused division in France’s government and society.

The uproar reached a high point on Tuesday, when a photograph of a woman being asked to remove her burkini by armed police on a Nice beach spread like wildfire across the internet.

The ruling by the Council of State on Friday specifically concerns a ban in the Riviera town of Villeneuve-Loubet, but the binding decision is expected to set a legal precedent for all the 30 or so French resort municipalities that have issued similar decrees. …

Next year's iPhone won't have a home button, report says

It’s telling that, days before the expected launch of iPhone 7, we’re seeing more rumors about the next year’s iPhone. The consensus among the reporters and leakers who follow Apple is that the iPhone 7 will only bring minor upgrades compared to last year’s model, while the iPhone that comes in 2017 will be a far more revolutionary upgrade.

A new Bloomberg report reiterates this notion, saying it’s likely that the 2017 iPhone will undergo a major redesign that shuns the home button and “focuses more heavily on the display.”

Action Memo coming to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 late next month

Remember Action Memo? This was the feature that allowed Galaxy Note users to jot down handwritten notes with the S Pen, and take action with it. For example, you could write a phone number on the screen and call or text it. Or, you might have written down an address and let Google Maps look it up. With Action Memo, you were able to send an email to a handwritten email address, and more.

Of course Chris Evans nailed 'Civil War' fight scenes on the first take

LOS ANGELES — Chris Evans is one of those “get it right on the first take” kind of guys. Like that’s a surprise.

In this exclusive clip from the DVD extras in the forthcoming Captain America: Civil War home video release, we learn that Evans doesn’t need a lot of do-overs. Sometimes none.

Actually, according to the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, it’s often none. Such a try-hard, this guy.

“He’s a crazy quick study,” Anthony told Mashable during the directing duo’s promotional run for the film’s forthcoming home video release. “Insanely fast. There are fights we’ve pre-blocked on the set that are really complicated that he gets in one or two takes.” …

US unveils charges against KickassTorrents, names two more defendants

US prosecutors have now named a total of three men said to be operators of the defunct file-sharing site KickassTorrents (KAT). The new allegations are in a formal indictment filed Tuesday, which contains the most detailed charges against the site yet.

Last month, alleged site operator 30-year-old Artem Vaulin of Ukraine was arrested in Poland. The new indictment (PDF) also names Ievgen (Eugene) Kutsenko aka “chill” and Oleksander (Alex) Radostin aka “pioneer,” also of Ukraine. Bench warrants have been issued for the arrest of all three men, although authorities have confirmed the arrest of only Vaulin. The indictment was reported earlier today by TorrentFreak.

Prosecutors say the three men developed and maintained the site together and used it to “generate millions of dollars from the unlawful distribution of copyright-protected media, including movies… television shows, music, video games, computer software, and electronic books.” They gave out “Reputation” and “User Achievement” awards to users who uploaded the most popular files, including a special award for users who had uploaded more than 1,000 torrents.
