The final quarter has enlivened the hopes of the industry

Paa, 2012, DDD, AjabIs the tide changing for better? Looks like! The last quarter of every year is most crucial, what with Diwali and Christmas being celebrated towards the final quarter of the year. This year was no different, with several biggies getting released in October and November. WAKE UP SID and ALL THE BEST [in October], AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, 2012 and DE DANA DAN [in November] and PAA [in the first week of December] have infused oxygen in the lungs of an ailing industry. While APKGK and 2012 are supreme hits, DE DANA DAN is scoring well at single screens. In fact, the second weekend of DDD has been equally strong in several circuits - Rajasthan Rs. 40.30 lacs, Bengal Rs. 18.73 lacs, Nizam Rs. 21 lacs, C.P. Berar Rs. 37.6 lacs, Mysore Rs. 18.61 lacs and C.I. Rs. 29.65 lacs. As for PAA, the Monday business has been strong too. In fact, better than Friday at several screens. Here's hoping ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR, AVATAR and 3 IDIOTS end the year on a prosperous note.

Milap Zaveri's directorial debut 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai' is embellished with good music

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi HaiMilap Zaveri has been associated with several big-budget films in the capacity of a writer. His work in some comedies especially has come in for all-round appreciation. Now Milap is ready to essay a new role - director. His directorial debut, titled JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sonal Sehgal, is complete and awaiting an early release. You would expect Milap's debut film to be a laughathon, but JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI is a romantic film with a lilting musical score. This writer had the privilege of watching four songs from the film and one must add, the tracks [composed by Sajid-Wajid and penned by Sameer] are not only tuneful, but also well filmed.

Ananth Mahadevan spells out reasons for casting Suniel Shetty

Suneil ShettyClick above for movie stills Suniel Shetty has never worked in a realistic film, but he's winning accolades for portraying the role of a farmer caught between naxals and police/government in RED ALERT - THE WAR WITHIN, directed by Ananth Mahadevan for producer T.P. Aggarwal. What prompted Ananth to cast Suniel in a serious, realistic, unconventional film? "That's what Suniel asked me," Ananth recalls, "I distinctly remember, Suniel was perplexed when I offered him a 'solo hero' film. But when he read the story, he realized RED ALERT was not one of those films that he had been associated with in the past." Suniel gradually became serious when he started preparing for the role. "He shed all those attributes he's known for and slipped into the role of Narsimha. I feel vindicated now that Suniel has won acclaim and awards for his performance at various international festivals," Ananth states.

Wishing Shekar Kapoor a very happy Birthday

Shekar KapoorHe is a man who hasn't defined perfection, but has given it a whole new definition, in his own sweet ways. He is someone, with whom the term 'Innocent' fits to a 'T'. We are indeed talking about Shekar Kapoor, the man with the 'Midas Touch'. Shekar is also the man who is our 'Birthday Baby' for the day! Having started his career working with a multi-national oil company, Shekar moved to Great Britain in 1970, and worked as an Accountant and Management Consultant. After that, was what one would call as 'Bollywood Calling'. After having acted in many serials and films, he gave Bollywood its first ever taste of 'Innocence' through his first film Masoom, a film that, till today, stands as one of the highlights of the magical tinsel town. Add to that India's evergreen answer to the fantasy genre Mr. India, a film that set unprecedented records. Enter the year 1998; and this man was all over the globe, courtesy his direction of the Academy Award-winning period film Elizabeth.
