Next-gen Huawei-made Nexus tipped to come with a Snapdragon 820

We’re all about Snapdragon 820 today. After we told you about a potential Lumia that may utilize Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for next year, and benchmark scores revealed the SoC to be a top performer, we’re now learning that it may be featured in the 2016 Nexus smartphone, again made by Huawei.

The Chinese heavyweight has only made a single Nexus – this year’s Nexus 6P, but the rumor goes that Google will be partnering with it for at least another year. And if the Snapdragon 820 is every bit as powerful as initial reports suggest, it’s only natural for it to be the chosen one to do the job.

The info comes from Chinese electronics industry analyst Pan Jiutang, and he’s putting Huawei in a list along with other big names like Samsung, Sony, LG, and Motorola, who will be outfitting devices with the S820.

Apparently, Google isn’t a fan of Huawei’s in-house top-end solution, the Kirin 950, which Huawei uses in the recently announced Mate 8.

Naturally, it’s too early to consider this information final, and the ongoing hype around the Snapdragon 820 might have gotten people overly excited. That said, the chip remains the most logical solution for a Google flagship in 2016.

Joe Jonas on having fun with DNCE and his ultimate Christmas sweater

With his new band DNCE, Joe Jonas and crew just want to have a good time. And maybe hang out with some ninjas

“We don’t take ourselves too seriously. The music is what we take seriously,” Jonas told Mashable Wednesday, adding that he likes to put a “wacky spin” on the lyrics. Beijing is publicly shaming polluting companies on Weibo

After the past week spent battling hazardous levels of pollution in Beijing, city authorities are publicly shaming businesses, factories, and residential buildings that flout clean air policies. Beijing’s environmental agency has started posting photos and details of violators to its 680,000 followers on Weibo.

Along with efforts to dispatch a higher number of inspectors to factories and industrial facilities, the agency’s Weibo account has been busy documenting findings brought back.

Asus about Apple's Smart Battery Case: "you don't need that extra pack" if you get a ZenFone Max

Not long after Apple released its Smart Battery Case (for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6), Asus took to Twitter to suggest that it’s got a worthy alternative to this phone + extra case setup. The alternative is the Asus ZenFone Max, a new, yet to be released handset that packs a 5,000 mAh battery by itself – no extras needed.

Asus compares the battery power of the ZenFone Max with the combined battery power of an iPhone and a Smart Battery Case, while saying: “You don’t need that extra pack when you have the maximum power in one.” It looks like Asus’ 5,000 mAh battery has an advantage, at least … – Source

A magical Chrome extension replaces Donald Trump with Lord Voldemort

As J.K. Rowling has said, Donald Trump trumps even Lord Voldemort in terms of evilness. We’re sure that the Death Eaters would agree.

So it’s only fitting that someone created a Google Chrome extension to replace “Donald Trump” with “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.” The extension, Trump2Voldemort was created by Sarah Xiyi Chen to “Avada Kedavra You-Know-Who’s name from your browser to Make America Great Again.”

Golden Globe nominations confirm it: What a strange awards season this is

LOS ANGELES — What a peculiar Oscar race this is turning out to be.

Though the correlation between the Golden Globes and the Oscars is dubious at best, the Hollywood Foreign Press’s Thursday morning announcement is the moment when — normally — we can safely declare a two- or three-way race for the Academy Awards’ Best Picture; when at least a couple of other major categories look sewn up tight; and when the intriguing races begin to take shape

But 2015 is not a normal year.
