Why I Love Sports: Warts And All (And Why I'm Proud To Be A Sports Law Professor)

I was midway through writing my latest sports law article for FORBES when I saw this Facebook post about Rebekah Gregory — a 27 year old runner who lost her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombing. Yesterday, Ms. Gregory ran the Boston Marathon on a prosthetic leg — all 26.2 miles of it. - Source

Extending climate predictability beyond El Niño

Tropical Pacific climate variations and their global weather impacts may be predicted much further in advance than previously thought, according to research by an international team of climate scientists. The source of this predictability lies in the tight interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere and among the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Oceans. Such long-term tropical climate forecasts are useful to the public and policy makers, researchers say. - Source

Oil Drilling Collapse: More Shoes To Drop

The collapse of oil drilling in recent months will have repercussions in a broader swath of the economy. For example, steel shipments have yet to reflect the new reality. Look for other regions and sectors to feel some collateral damage in the months to come. That said, the effect on the overall economy of cheap oil is still positive, but not without some real losers amongst the winners. - Source

'Batman V Superman' Trailer Was Perfect Marketing... For 'The LEGO Batman Movie'

Our long national Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer roll-out nightmare is over. Last night was indeed the IMAX trailer launch event, and reports came in of packed houses and excited crowds. My AMC Woodland Hills auditorium was pretty full, and everyone in attendance got an IOU for a free pre-release screening of the film a week before its March 25th debut. That’s a rather lovely gesture frankly, as WB basically took a big chunk out of its own opening weekend gross by giving the biggest of the big fans a free preview of the film that (presumably) won’t be tabulated into the film’s debut frame grosses. Anyway, the trailer that ran last night was the same one as we all saw online last week, with the addition of a five-second sequence of Batman and Superman charging at each other like the end of Rocky III (cue the “Eye of the Tiger” remix). - Source

Now our test will provide them with certainty and allow the safe import of bees without this biosecurity risk,” a researcher said. - Source
