Week 49 in review: Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors, Nougat update frenzy

Last week wasn’t filled with all that many new device announcements. The Meizu M5 Note was a notable exception, along with an interesting wearable, courtesy of the same manufacturer. Apart from that, however, it seems the industry is mostly focusing on the bright future to come, which is frankly logical, since we are well into December now.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 appears to be on everybody’s mind. As per the latest batch of rumors, next year’s flagship should be a spectacular sight to behold, complete with a likely edge-to-edge, RGB-matrix AMOLED panel, with nothing else on the front,…

Top 10 trending phones of week 49

There are slow weeks on out Top 10 trending chart and then there’s this past week. Five phones have kept their spots from the previous edition and two pairs have just traded places, but hey – there’s one new entry.

All the way down in 10th we find the one phone that wasn’t on the chart last week – the Xiaomi Redmi 3s. Not the 3s Prime – that one is still here, this week in 5th.

The Galaxy S7 edge has slipped one spot into 9th, freeing the 8th for the Redmi Note 4. The Galaxy J7 (2016) has stood still in its 7th position, while the Redmi 3s Prime has nudged the Oppo F1s into 6th on…

Man behind THAT Usain Bolt photo picks the best sporting shots of 2016

As he runs, just ahead of a field of men desperately trying to beat the champion sprinter, Usain Bolt turns and seems to flash a cheeky grin at the camera.

The photo, taken in August at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, quickly became the most recognised sporting photo of the year. The man behind the lens, Cameron Spencer, gave dozens of interviews about how he got the shot — suffice it to say, he’s a master photographer.

Walter White joins the Trump cabinet on 'SNL,' and he has the perfect role

“It’s almost like Mr. Trump appoints these people specifically to undermine the very agencies they head,” said CNN’s Jake Tapper, as played by Saturday Night Live’s Beck Bennett.

By that logic, who did the show predict Trump would hire to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)? None other than former high school chemistry teacher and meth cook, Walter White.

Bryan Cranston reprised his Breaking Bad role as White in Saturday’s cold open, appearing alongside Bennett and Kate McKinnon as Trump aide Kellyanne Conway.

Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson, climate archvillain, to be named secretary of state

If it weren’t real, it might read like a dark climate change comedy.

President-elect Donald J Trump is expected to turn to the leader of America’s largest oil company, and the main villain in a new wave of climate change activism, to lead the State Department: ExxonMobil Corp. CEO Rex Tillerson. Multiple news organizations reported the pick on Saturday.

Tillerson has worked at Exxon for his entire career, which is important since Exxon is currently under investigation for misleading its investors and the American public about the threat of global warming since the 1970s. The investigations and environmental activism surrounding it are known by the hashtag #ExxonKnew. …

Please enjoy this inspiring student reacting to animals in zoology class

Some students sleep through class. Some students take just enough notes to pass the final exam. And some students are like this dude.

Twitter user @jilliebean421 tweeted a video Friday of her classmate Jalen, whose astounded reactions to the animals in their zoology class are nothing short of inspiring.

Apple unleashes new Apple Watch Series 2 ads for the holidays

If you believe some studies, smartwatch sales are down by more than 50 percent, but that isn’t stopping Apple from pushing its latest wearable even harder just before Christmas.

In a new series of ads the company posted on Friday, the Apple Watch Series 2 is profiled as the ultimate lifestyle device.

Taking us from what looks like Los Angeles and Asia, and then a dance studio and an outdoor soccer match, the spots don’t feature any dialogue and only last from 10 to 16 seconds each.

The key focus in each video is how they open: with the wearer opening a gift box containing the Apple Watch Series 2, a clear prompt to stuff …
