'Bourne' and 'Bad Moms' open big at the box office while 'Trek' flails

Jason Bourne is the top box office earner for the weekend, with the Matt Damon-led sequel amassing an estimated $60 million in domestic ticket sales.

That, plus Universal’s reported $50.1 million in foreign sales, puts the cumulative box office of the Damon-led Bourne movies — Jason Bourne makes it four — over $1 billion.

The series already hit the $1 billion mark after 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, a sort-of-spin-off starring Jeremy Renner as another agent from the same program that spawned Bourne. The 2016 revival brings back Damon, whose presence surely helped bolster the movie’s box office take against …

14 of the most heart-breaking quotes from 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'

Warning: I’ve tried to take out as much of the context as I can to minimise spoilers, but there are still story hints and giveaways in the quotes below. If you’ve yet to read the Cursed Child script or watch the play, you’d be best off apparating yourself away from this article post-haste.

LONDON — With a title like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the eighth chapter in the world’s favourite wizarding saga was never going to be an entirely happy one.

A very important investigation into the 'Harry Potter' books and films

After their releases, the Harry Potter films quickly became classics. But, how close did they actually stay to the books on which they were based?

In part one of Harry Potter — What’s the Difference?, we compare the plots, characters and details of first three films to the books. It turns out that at the end of the day, they are pretty darn close. …

WARNING: I’ve tried not to go too heavy on major spoilers, but there are still references to the plot — and specific scenes — below. If you haven’t seen the play or read the book yet, it might be worth holding off on this article for the time being.

LONDON — It’s been a whopping nine years since J.K. Rowling’s last Harry Potter book came out, but now we finally have a new story in our clutches.

Being the hopelessly obsessed Harry Potter fan that I am, I picked up a copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child — the script based on the play by Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany — at midnight on Sunday. Then I powered through the whole thing before going to sleep. …

Waze will soon remind you not to forget your kid in the car

Drivers lose track of a lot of things, but it’s always hard to believe people are forgetting kids in their cars. One would think walking away from a baby you are always with would feel like walking outside with no shoes. You would instantly notice something is missing, right?

It seems this issue is more common than one would think. According to San Jose State University’s Department of Meteorology & Climate Science, kids forgotten in vehicles has been the cause of 23 infant deaths in the USA this year. It’s kind of a big deal, especially as the summer heat creeps up on us. This is why Waze wants to help a bit.

The popular navigation app is getting ready to launch a feature that would remind users not to forget their kids every time they reach their destinations. These notifications can be personalized and are now available in Waze’s beta app.

But of course, if people are forgetting their kids, nothing can assure they will be paying attention to their notifications. This is a nice addition, nonetheless. If you find you don’t need it, it’s also possible to disable the feature.

We don’t know how long this feature will stay in beta, but if it is to save some lives we certainly hope it comes to the official app sooner rather than later.

In what contexts should messaging be the UI?

The current messaging hype is overstated. There are certainly some interesting and unique opportunities for messaging as an interface, but I contend the number of practical use cases is a fraction of what the current hype cycle suggests. Read More

Instead of buying a burger, you can spend $1 to buy the AT&T Trek 2 HD tablet

Sure, you can spend that last dollar in your wallet for a greasy burger that has the consistency of a hockey puck. Or, you could buy the AT&T Trek 2 HD Tablet. With a signed two-year pact, you can buy the unit for that same buck you were going to use at Mickey D’s. Newegg has a deal on the 32GB and 64GB Nexus 6P that runs through July 31st

The Nexus 6P will soon end its reign as the current high-end Nexus handset. Despite #bendgate, we’d say that the Huawei built device had a rather solid, if unspectacular year at the top. With its days numbered, the phone will apparently be soon replaced as Google’s flagship stock Android handset by a 5.5-inch model produced by HTC.

But right at this moment, the Nexus 6P still wears the crown and retailer Newegg has the phone on sale through the end of July. That means you have all of today and all of tomorrow to buy the 32GB or 64GB version of the device. The former is priced at $399, a … – Source

'Game of Thrones' will end after eighth season, HBO confirms

All shows must die — even Game of Thrones.

HBO programming executive Casey Bloys confirmed at this weekend’s Television Critics Association press tour that GoT’s shortened eighth season will be its last.

The news, rumored for months by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, comes as no surprise to fans. Still, it’s the first outright confirmation from HBO. And if we’ve learned one thing from Game of Thrones, it’s not to trust something is dead until the show confirms it.

“Yes, they [Benioff and Weiss] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys said. “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.” …
