Pokemon GO might (or might not) get a Christmas in-game event

The folks at The Silph Road have been spot-on with their predictions about Pokemon GO on numerous occasions, so we have little reason to doubt them. And their latest guess points towards a possible Christmas in-game event for Pokemon GO, based on tearing the game’s code apart after the latest update.

The latest code dissection revealed three hints towards such an event, but the guys from The Silph Road categorized them as “grasp[ing] at some straws”.

The first hint towards such an event would be the “present/gift” graphics. These are images added to the … – Source

You can bet on pugs racing in Christmas costumes to brighten your day

We love all dogs, but there’s a special place in our heart for the French Pug.It’s hard not to gush over their squidgy face, boisterous manner and general adorableness.

They make an okay racing dog too. And while they’ll never match the speeds of a greyhound, at least you can count on pugs to be entertaining.

50 pugs sprinted down City Walk in Canberra, Australia, on Monday as part of the Christmas in the City celebrations.

The track was 15 metres long, and owners were encouraged to dress up their dogs.

North Pole to warm to near melting point this week: 50 degrees above normal

It’s happening again: The temperature at the North Pole is projected to spike to around the melting point, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit, on Wednesday into Thursday, despite the complete lack of sunshine that far north in December.

Such temperatures would be about 50 degrees above average for this time of year, exceeding the color scale on some weather maps. (Typically, air temperatures at the pole don’t start periodically rising above freezing until at least May.)

In other words, this is not normal. But it’s a fitting conclusion to a year of unprecedented global warming milestones in the Arctic. …

Jerry Lewis has no time for this interview about how hold he is

LOS ANGELES — Why?

It’s the eternal question, but it’s also a handy answer if you’re 90 years old and some pesky whippersnapper with a notepad is peppering you with questions about your age.

The Hollywood Reporter this week published “Creative until you die,” a series of nifty — if somewhat macabrely titled — interviews about showbiz luminaries still working after age 90. Dick Van Dyke, Cloris Leachman, Don Rickles, Betty White … there are more than you might think.

THR books editor Andy Lewis (no relation, we hope) traveled to Lewis’ home in Las Vegas to interrogate, errrr, interview the famously difficult comedian, who was obviously in no mood that day to talk about how advanced age was affecting his career. …

Nougat may be to blame for battery issues on some Nexus 6P phones

An increasing number of reports from owners of Google’s Nexus 6P phones claim that the device is shutting down unexpectedly, even with a lot of battery life remaining. The problems may be related to the phone’s update to Android 7.0 Nougat.

As Android Police points out, there are quite a few posts on these battery problems showing up on Google’s support forums. Some users report that even after they roll back the OS update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, they still experience the Nexus 6P shutting down, even though it might have between 10 to 60 percent of its battery charge remaining. That could mean there is an previously undiscovered hardware problem with the phone that was exposed with the update to Nougat.

Android Police also states many of these reports come from owners who use their phones in colder climates, but it’s currently unknown how this might be connected to the battery problems. Google does have this issue on their tracker, but there’s no indication on when the company might issue a patch to solve this problem. The phone’s maker Huawei has reportedly told owners that the issue is due to Google’s software changes, and thus is not covered by the company’s warranty.

Have you had your Nexus 6P shut down ahead of schedule after you updated the phone to Nougat? If so, give us your thoughts on this problem in the comments.

Uber brilliantly sets self-driving battle at permission, not existence

Should Uber’s self-driving taxis be allowed on the road? If Uber’s shrewd strategy plays out, we’ll never even ask. Instead, Uber wants to divert everyone’s attention to a much less consequential question: Does Uber even need a permit to test self-driving taxis? The genius here is that it doesn’t matter if it wins or loses this fight. If it wins its… Read More
