Ranbir Kapoor̢۪s loss becomes Aditya Roy Kapoor's gain

From one Kapoor to another. Debutant Aditya Roy Kapur who has made such a positive impact in Action Replayy has Ranbir to thank for the part. Post-Saawariya Aditya’s role was first offered to Ranbir who had reservations about sharing screen space with Aishwarya and Akshay. Veejay-turned-actor Aditya Roy Kapur who also plays a major role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish, has found unexpected support in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who stars with him in both his post-debut films. While Aishwarya plays Aditya’s mother in Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, she stars as his confidante and sympathetic shoulder in Guzaarish, two contrasting roles with the same actress that could create a confusion of perception, though it may be recalled Jaya Bhaduri played Sanjeev Kumar’s daughter and wife in Parichay and Koshish, respectively. Aditya is totally unfazed and far from confused about his diametrically opposed parts with Aishwarya in the two films he’s doing with her. “Sanjay Bhansali Sir’s and Vipul Sir’s film approach and treatment to the characters are so different, my response to the scenes is decided the minute I reach the sets for the two films. So I’m not confused by differing roles with Aishwarya in the two films,” says the young actor who made his debut last year in London Dreams as Zoheb, the Pakistani member of Ajay Devgan’s rock band. “I had no burning ambition to become an actor,” confesses Aditya whose eldest brother Siddharth works with UTV and second brother Kunal is a director- actor. Aditya is the baby of the family. “Considering my eldest bro is 19 years my senior, he’s almost like a father figure. So yes, I’m the baby of the family. I think Sanjay Sir and Vipul Sir saw me veejaying on television and decided to sign me. Luckily both the experiences have been rewarding.” Though Aditya has been seen around with his Guzaarish co-star Monikangana Dutta, it’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan he likes talking about. “She has been very helpful with my scenes, telling me how to do them. She has been a silent support on the sets. I won’t forget that.” Aditya has often been seen hanging out with Monikangana. But he dismisses any talk of their friendship being anything more. “She’s my co-star in Guzaarish. And we’re of the same generation. So we spend time together. Otherwise I am single at the moment.”

Legal notice issued to Balaji Motion Pictures for OUATIM

Once Upon A Time In MumbaaiIt's been three months since Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai had it's release and did good business but the fire hasn't died down yet. While Ekta Kapoor is looking at future projects, she is embroiled in a controversy involving her previous film. It is said that a company called Movie Tee Vee Enterprises is taking Balaji Motion Pictures to court for using the remixed version of the song 'Duniya Mein Logon Ko' in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. The original song is from the Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz starrer film Apna Desh (1972). Balaji claims that they have taken the rights of the said song from Sa Re Ga Ma for remaking it; while on the other hand, Movie Tee Vee Enterprises claims that Sa Re Ga Ma cannot rightfully give the rights for a remix of the song, as they own the negative rights. Currently, Balaji's legal department is looking into the issue.

Naseer, Sharman and Faruk Kabir to file PIL against Central Government

Allah Ke BandayNormally it is our filmmakers who are served PILs (public interest litigations) by disgruntled citizens. In what could seen as a historic reversal of the relationship between cinema and the nation's collective conscience, director-actor Faruk Kabir who has made a film on juvenile crime Allah Ke Banday, is all set to file a PIL against the Indian government for serious lapses in the laws governing remand homes. Says Faruk, "During my research for Allah Ke Banday, I had to visit several remand homes repeatedly. I was shocked to see how these homes, meant to be shelters for young wayward kids, were being managed. Let me tell you, these homes are not going to reform the kids. They will only encourage them to become bigger criminals." Knocked down by spasms of guilt, Faruk has got together with his cast members Naseeruddin Shah and Sharman Joshi to file a PIL against the administrative teams that run India's Juvenile Remand Homes. Says Faruk, "What I saw in these remand homes made a terrific script for my film. But I didn't want to treat these troubled and abused kids I came across as 'slumdogs'. I didn't want to come away from their lives with the feeling that I've just exploited these wretched kids for my film and then forgotten them. I've to take my interest in these kids beyond my film." Through the PIL, Faruk intends to ask the Indian government some basic questions about the remand homes across the country. Over to Kabir, "No counselling is being provided to the juvenile inmates which leads them to be as misguided as they were in the outside world. Many a times, they become psychologically damaged for life. Innumerable cases have been seen where although sentenced for a year only, the inmates end up spending four to five years of their lives in remand homes because there is no provision for them to even know of their rights. The Government has no program to make the delinquents self-sufficient by teaching them professions that they can use once they come out into the world and not go back into crime due to lack of options. And there're no proper avenues for formal education for juvenile inmates when that is their right and duty of the various government agencies to provide them classrooms, teachers, books, educational programs etc." Faruk feels by challenging the Indian government he would be fulfilling a duty beyond cinema. Says the director, "It's okay to be using these tortured lives to tell a gripping story. Having said that, don't we owe these wayward kids a chance to lead a decent life? Our remand homes don't allow them to grow. We need to change that."

Katrina plays headstrong girl in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Katrina KaifKatrina Kaif has just embarked on her most different acting assignment to date. The Yash Raj Film which she signed while working in Spain with Zoya Akhtar requires her to go into intense preparation. Apparently, Katrina's character in debutant director Ali Abbas Zafar's film is so volatile and unpredictable that it is completely contrary to every personality trait of Katrina's.
In the film with Imran Khan and singer Ali Zafar, Katrina plays the craziest, zaniest, most stubborn and self-opinionated character of her career. And for that she needed special preparation. According to producer Aditya Chopra's brief Katrina plays the temperamental girl after much preparation. Known to be well-behaved and gentle in person, Katrina plays a talkative ill-tempered busybody. Says Katrina, "All I can say about my role is this girl is quite a number, the closest I came to playing something so challenging was in Namastey London and that was a cakewalk compared with this . The girl in Ali's film is... something else. I have to go completely outside myself to play her. Whom am I observing to play the role? I am not telling."

Ashutosh Gowariker launches music of Gajendra Ahire's Marathi film

Ashutosh GowarikerAshutosh Gowariker recently unveiled the first look and launched the music of maverick director Gajendra Ahire's latest Marathi offering - his musical masterpiece Sumbaran... Soneri Divsanchya Soneri Aathavani. The star studded ceremony that featured many celebrities and glitterati from the Marathi industry featured performances by none other than Shaan himself along with music director Ajit Parab and Janhavi.
The event was also a celebration of Sumbaran's selection in the Indian Panorama category of the prestigious International Film Festival of India 2010 (IFFI 2010). With the selection of Sumbaran at IIFI, Gajendra Ahire now holds the distinction of probably being the only director whose films have got selected at IIFI more than thrice. Also present at the ceremony were the cast and crew of Sumbaran including Makarand Anaspure, Siddharth Jadhav, Jitendra Joshi, Ravi Kale, Ravindra Mankani, Sai Tamhankar, Vrunda Ahire, Mukta Barve, Ashwini Kalsekar, Aditi Bhagwat, Seema Deshmukh, Sushrut Mankani, Swarali Patil, Music director Rahul Ranade, editor Rahul Bhatankar, and cinematographer. According to the producer Mr. Sunil Phadtare "It's indeed a joyous occasion for all of us. Making this film was a cathartic experience and it was all Gajendra sirs' efforts that have made this film a masterpiece. I would also specially like to thank Rahul Ranade for composing such a melodious album. He has skilfully managed to capture all the emotions in the film transcending in to the music." Sumbaran is a romantic love story of a village left behind and for each one it is a different alibi. It marks the journey of a budding music director Viru (Jitendra Joshi) who decides to visit his native home along with his brother Vasanta (Makarand Anaspure), sister in law Vahini (Vrunda Ahire), his two friends Mukta (Sai Tamhankar) and Sushu (Sushrut Mankani). Visiting this abandoned house creates the ripple of pleasant memories not only for Veeru but also his aloof brother Vasanta. The film unravels the mystery of unforgotten cultural roots, unspoken bonds, mischief, melodious music and unprecedented romance in addition to bringing to fore rapidly changing social dynamics. Beaming with pride director Gajendra Ahire said, "it's an honour to be selected at the Indian Panorama and its all the more sweet as this my fourth movie to be selected. Sumbaran is not just a film it's an unforgettable experience. It's a story of picturesque memories reminiscing lost personas. Sumbaran is a collaborative effort in the every sense of the word and I am extremely happy with the way this movie has shaped up. It undoubtedly is amongst my best works thus far." The Sumbaran music album contains five tracks in all, vastly ranging from authentic folk (originated from a nomadic shepherd community -Dhangar) to contemporary jazz numbers. The album offers a soulful melody called 'Rutu yetil Jatil' sung by Shaan and Janhavi Arora. Shaan has also sung a youthful peppy number. True to his style and music repertoire, Rahul Ranade has cleverly woven two different musical forms making this a complete musical treat. Rahul Ranade, Music Director of the film said "The film's protagonist is a music director who explores music through his childhood inspiration Bhiroba. The nomadic shepherd community folk essence was very crucial to establish Bhiroba and Veeru's character. I was extremely excited to amalgamate folk with contemporary jazz and rock- the two distinctively polar genre of music in Sumbaran. I couldn't think of a better choice than Shaan for the youthful compositions, and being close friends with him also helped. Janhavi Arora has a versatile appeal and she has sung exceptionally well. Ajit Parab himself is a great composer and he has added a fresh flavor to the rhythmic folk song 'Punvechaya Chandnyat' which has also been brilliantly sung by renowned folk singer Nandesh Umap. And finally, the excellent choice of musicians on each composition has made Sumbaran an exclusive album." Sumbaran...Soneri Divsanchya Soneri Aathavani is slated to release on November 19, 2010.
