ISIS claims San Bernardino attackers as 'supporters' of extremist group

The Islamic State (ISIS) released a new audio message on Saturday describing the San Bernardino attackers as “Islamic State supporters.”

The married couple behind the attack, 28-year-old Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, 27-year-old Tashfeen Malik, dressed in tactical gear armed with two assault rifles and two semiautomatic handguns before storming a San Bernardino conference center and opening fire, leaving 14 dead and 21 others injured.

The FBI previously released information that Malik had openly expressed support for the group on a Facebook page prior to the attack, but pointed out they had no information linking either attacker to forces outside of the country …

A review of the $10 Walmart phone—better than nothing, but not by much

We traded the thing on the left for the thing on the right. And yes the display really looks that bad in real life.

The other day we were rather shocked to hear that Walmart was selling a pre-paid smartphone for ten whole dollars. When we saw the device was running Android, we just had to see what it was like. So we walked into our local store, plunked an entire $10 bill down on the table, and walked out with a rough facsimile of a smartphone. Meet the LG Sunrise.

This is not our first trip into the masochistic world of ultra-cheap smartphones. We previously reviewed the Intex Cloud FX, a $35 smartphone that ran Firefox OS. The Cloud FX had a ton of problems, but for us the most limiting thing was FireFox OS. It couldn’t run any benchmarks or our battery tests, making the device a $35 slab of uselessness that could occasionally render a webpage without crashing. The Sunrise is packing something much more familiar though: Android. It’s only running Android 4.4 KitKat, but that’s a lot better than Mozilla’s app-less browser OS.

We should mention that while we walked into a Walmart and spent only $10 on this device, it was on sale. Various carrier models have the MSRP of the Sunrise listed for $40-$60. We should also mention that this $10 deal is for a locked prepaid phone. If you want to have cell service on this device, it has to be with TracFone unless you want to unlock it somehow. You could also just never get service and have a $10 Wi-Fi device.

4-inch Apple iPhone 7c might come in September 2016

Rumors on a possible successor to the iPhone 5c have been on and off at least since March. An alleged iPhone 6c then showed up in a live image (well, at least its back cover), and at one point it was also rumored to launch side by side with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

No such thing happened, as we’re all aware, but rumors keep coming in that an iPhone 6c will eventually materialize. However, this new bit suggests that it will come even later, and thus will be named iPhone 7c instead of iPhone 6c.

The info supposedly comes from suppliers to Apple’s main manufacturer Foxconn. This 4-inch iPhone 7c is now tipped to arrive in September, as a build-up to the release of the proper iPhone 7. Alongside this information, a $400-$500 price ballpark has been quoted too, presumably off contract.

Needless to say, there’s little tangible data to support these claims, so take them with a due dose of skepticism.

We don't have to let abortion divide us

Every year, thousands of people call a toll-free talk line known as Exhale to discuss their abortion experiences

Women call from all over the country. Their feelings are not bound by stereotype; callers are often simultaneously joyous, sad and hopeful. Their political beliefs are not predictable, either. Some are staunchly for or against abortion rights; others feel apathetic or deeply conflicted

Callers also include men grappling with their partner’s or family member’s abortion

This is what it looks like when America talks about abortion. Every conversation is different. But the callers share one common desire: to be heard without judgement …

Six-year-old HTC HD2 receives Android 6.0 port

Released back in 2009, HTC’s legendary HD2 smartphone simply refuses to die. Although the device shipped with Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, it has seen ports of several major mobile OS’ including Windows Phone 7, MeeGo, and of course Android – v2.1, Jelly Bean, KitKat, and Lollipop. And now, Marshmallow has also been ported onto the handset.

Frankly, it would be unfair to expect HD2 with Android 6.0 to function smoothly, so it comes as a little surprise that the port is “riddled with bugs and non-working features” – only screen, Wi-Fi, and audio are currently said to be working fine out-of-the-box.

Even if it doesn’t provide a complete experience, the port does show that the now struggling Taiwanese company gave us some of the most impressive mobile hardware we’ve ever seen. For instructions on how to install the port, head to the Via 2 link below.

Inside the New York Daily News crusade against the NRA and gun violence

Listening to Jim Rich talk about the wave of shootings in the U.S. this week, you might think for a moment that he works as a gun control advocate, or at the very least is one very pissed off American. You might be right on the latter.

“When people are so fearful that they can’t even walk down the street without being armed, which is what the NRA [National Rifle Association] and the gun lobbyists are suggesting at the moment, that seems a bit insane to me and it seems to be infringing on peoples’ right not to be armed,” says Rich

He’s not just a concerned citizen. Rich is the editor-in-chief of The New York Daily News, one of the country’s most recognizable daily newspapers …

Welsh man shares dashcam footage of grandfather's stroke to raise awareness

Editor’s note: Some people may find the above video distressing.

LONDON — A British man has shared a harrowing dashcam video on YouTube that shows the moment his grandfather suffered a stroke behind the wheel to increase awareness

In the footage above, 20-year-old Charlie Hambley is in the passenger seat next to this 78-year-old grandfather as they drive through the streets of Wales. After his grandfather’s driving becomes erratic, Hambley grows concerned and asks him a question he would normally know — what is 49 kph in mph? — to check that he’s okay.

Hambley’s grandfather is unable to answer, but realising something’s not right he manages to pull the car safely over to the side of the road. After an ambulance is called his granddad’s speech becomes increasingly slurred. …
