London police officer has epic dance off with person in giant pig costume

LONDON — There’s only one thing more entertaining than a police officer dancing in the middle of a busy street, and that’s a police officer having a dance off with a giant pig in the middle of a busy street.

Samsung Galaxy Note7 sales resume in US

If you recall, there were rumors recently that in the US, the Samsung Galaxy Note7 will be back on sale on October 21. However, turns out that’s not the case as the device is already available for purchase in the country.

At least two of the country’s Big Four carriers – Sprint and Verizon – have the new, safer version of the handset listed on their respective websites. All the three color options – Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral – are currently available on both carriers. We expect other major carriers to join the party soon.

Komodo dragons fighting in slow-mo will make you stay indoors forever

In case you forgot just how magnificent and terrifying the natural world can be, refresh your memory with this intimidating slow motion brawl between two male Komodo Dragons.

The footage was captured by photographer Chris Bray while he visited the small Indonesian island of Rinca.

Bray left a GoPro and 360 degree Theta S camera in the bushes, catching all the action in an almost too-close-for-comfort battle of Godzilla-like dudes.

Komodo Dragons are carnivorous animals that can make a meal of water buffalo and deer, so Bray was smart to back away.

“The sheer scaly bulk of these two 80 to 90 kilogram [176 to 198 pound] Komodo Dragons battling it out … was enough to momentarily transport me back to the Jurassic period,” said Bray on YouTube. …

500,000 safe Galaxy Note7 units arrive in the US

Even if you don’t follow tech, the chances are, you’ve heard a thing or two about the self-combusting Galaxy Note7. Shortly after its launch in mid-August, reports about the Note7 exploding and causing damage started to trickle in; before we knew it, Samsung launched an official recall program, including in the US. The whole process has been rather confusing with different procedures and programs in each country, but Note7 owners in the US will be happy to learn that 500,000 safe Galaxy Note7 units have finally arrived in the US.

The past few weeks have been hectic for Samsung, I would imagine. And it’s been hectic for Galaxy Note7 users around the world as well. In the US, Samsung has urged current Note7 users to return their devices and wait for new units to arrive, but things haven’t really been smooth. Though Samsung claimed that Note7 users would get the Galaxy J as a loaner phone, users have complained that in reality, carriers often did not have loaner devices ready in stock or were simply unaware of the program.

To add to this chaos, both FedEx and UPS have refused to ship Note7 units back to Samsung due to safety concerns. It makes sense since one single unit that its user has forgotten to power off could mean a potential fire hazard. This meant users had to walk into a carrier store and turn it in themselves. But as data have suggested, many users were unwilling to do that until new units were available.

Well, Samsung is now saying that 500,000 safe Note7 devices have been distributed across the US, so in the next few days, you can go to a store near you and see if they have new units in stock. Mind you, Samsung has sold a total of one million Galaxy Note7 units in the US that all need to be replaced but so far has only provided 500,000 safe units. That means you are only guaranteed to be able to exchange it on the condition that stores around you are stocked with new Note7 units.

The safe units will come in a box with a black square marking, and you will also see a green battery indicator on the status bar instead of a white one. Be sure to let us know in the comments if you get your hands on a safe Note7 unit in the coming days!

For those who are interested in getting a new Note7, Samsung is said to be re-launching the device in the US on October 21st.

The Federal self-driving vehicles policy has been finally published

On Monday, the National Highway Transportation Safety Agency published its long-awaited Federal Automated Vehicles Policy. NHTSA is the part of the US Government responsible for regulating the vehicles we drive, and it’s broadly in favor of self-driving technology given the potential to reduce the death toll on the nation’s roads. That toll, by the way, nudged above 35,000 in 2015 (up almost eight percent on the previous year).

The new document includes both a performance guidance (as opposed to regulation) for automated vehicles as well as a model policy for individual states to follow. As is the case with new federal government policies, the document is open for public comment for the next 60 days.

What does the guidance say?

First off the bat is NHTSA’s decision to abandon its own scale of autonomous driving levels. Instead, the agency will use the SAE scale; this goes from Level 0 (where a human driver does everything) to level 5 (completely automated). Cars equipped with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, traffic jam assist, or Autopilot fall somewhere between SAE’s Levels 2 and 3:

Elizabeth Warren takes Wells Fargo CEO to the woodshed over fake accounts

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a demand for Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf: Quit, and do so in disgrace.

“You should resign,” Warren said Tuesday during a hearing held by the Senate Banking Committee over widespread customer fraud that resulted in a $185 million fine. “You should give back the money that you took while this scam was going on, and you should be criminally investigated by both the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In early September, regulators for California and the federal government joined forces to levy one of the largest fines to ever hit a U.S. financial institution. Investigators found that Wells Fargo employees had opened more than two million accounts on behalf of some of the bank’s customers without authorization. …
