New York City drivers can now pay for parking via their phone

Paying for on-street parking in New York City is becoming much more convenient, as the city’s administration officially unveiled a new mobile payment system called ParkNYC. The service went live on Monday, as the first ParkNYC compatible Muni-Meters were installed in Midtown Manhattan.

In order to take advantage of this new feature, one must register on the dedicated website, as the system itself links registered license plate numbers to NYPD traffic enforcement agents’ handheld devices. Motorists can then utilize this new method to remotely settle their parking … – Source

Angry James Corden perfectly sums up why British people hate Secret Santa

For your average grumpy and socially awkward British person, the phrase “Secret Santa” is something to be feared above all else.

Because it’s just such a minefield, isn’t it? There’s the quandary of whether or not to go for a humorous gift and how much to spend. That’s before you’ve even get on to the present-opening bit where everyone stands around clapping and any microscopic signs of disappointment are magnified ten-fold.

OnePlus will start manufacturing the OnePlus 3T in India to meet growing demand

Local manufacturing will kick off early next quarter.

OnePlus has announced that it will manufacture phones locally in India, and today we’re hearing more about the company’s plans. In an interview with Reuters, OnePlus India general manager Vikas Agarwal revealed that local manufacturing for the OnePlus 3T will kick off early next quarter.

India is a huge market for OnePlus, with one-third of its global sales coming from the country. The OnePlus 3T went on sale on Amazon India — where it is available exclusively — last week, and OnePlus announced that it already picked up 200,000 registrations for the phone.

OnePlus currently imports phones into the country, but by manufacturing its products locally, it is looking to alleviate supply constraints:

We actually probably have lost, I would say, maybe 30 percent of sales because of stock-outs. The focus is on trying our best to meet the demand.

The company hasn’t reveals its manufacturing partners yet, but it is likely the brand will tie up with Foxconn. And while there are no plans to offer its products on other platforms, OnePlus will establish an experience centre early next year in Bangalore, where prospective buyers will be able to go hands-on with its latest phones.

NBA star hurls profanities at reporter in outburst caught on camera

You don’t see this every day: An NBA star getting in a local columnist’s face, then that columnist’s paper devoting an entire article to condemning the player’s “bullying.”

But then again, the Sacramento Kings aren’t your everyday NBA team and DeMarcus Cousins isn’t your everyday NBA star.

Joyce Terhaar is executive editor of The Sacramento Bee. She published a column this weekend entitled, “DeMarcus Cousins unleashes profanities at Bee reporter in latest attempt to control the media.”

The crux of the story was a confrontation between Cousins and Bee columnist Andy Furillo. To be more accurate, actually, Cousins was the one doing all the confronting. Cousins was upset about Furillo having …

'Barry' director on race, identity and why the young Obama matters

Vikram Gandhi didn’t direct the Netflix biopic Barry because he cared about Barack Obama. He made it because he cared about a kid named Barry.

Gandhi set out to discover who Barack was before he was Barack, back in 1981. The film follows a portion of Obama’s life then as a student at Columbia University, and how it shaped who he would grow up to be.

“I don’t know who Barack Obama is,” Gandhi told Mashable in a phone interview. “I didn’t study that. I studied who Barry was. I related with Barry. The things that he’s struggling with are things that people around me have struggled with, I’ve struggled with, and I think that I still struggle with. Barack Obama’s the president; I have no idea what that’s like, but I know what it’s like to be a confused kid, a 20-year-old kid in New York City trying to figure out where you belong.” …

As stock value plunges, Nintendo now says it has no plans to bring any DLC to Super Mario Run

Super Mario Run has, to put it lightly, not fared well in its first five days. The game is saddled with a 2.5-star rating on Apple’s App Store with over 50,000 reviews, and Nintendo’s share price has plummeted over 15% as investors hoping the mobile title would become a major new profit engine for the company began to react.

Nintendo currently plans to bring Super Mario Run to Android, but hasn’t specified a release date.
