Let’s face it, the new Nest Cam wasn’t probably on your Black Friday radar because the cost of the unit is hardly in its hardware, but in the somewhat needed Nest Aware subscription. If you’re willing to put down $100-300 per year on that, a few saved bucks here and there won’t make that much of a difference. But since we’re thrifty people and we think every dollar counts, we’ll tell you about this Nest Cam discount anyway.

J.K. Rowling opens up about why Harry named his son after Snape

LONDON — It’s a question some Harry Potter fans have pondered over ever since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows apparated its way onto our book shelves in 2007: Why, exactly, did Harry decide to name his second son after a man he spent most of his childhood despising?

In the final book’s epilogue, when Harry is saying goodbye to Albus Severus Potter at Platform 9 3/4, he tells his son he was named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. “One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew,” he says.

It seems not everyone was happy with that explanation, though. …

Yesterday, OnePlus admitted that its USB-Type C cables and adapters were causing damage to power sources in certain conditions, thanks to the use of non-standard resistors in the accessories. If you use the cable to connect a smartphone using rapid charging with certain power banks, chargers, or USB hubs, there is a chance that the power source will be damaged.

In a statement, OnePlus says that the cable and adapter is perfectly safe to use with the OnePlus 2. Those who purchased the cable or adapter to use with another device, can receive a refund from OnePlus as long as it is requested … – Source

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra (with its near bezel-less display) now available in the US via Amazon

Back in August, when Sony announced and launched the Xperia C5 Ultra in Asia, it asked around $420 for it. Now, the smartphone is about $100 cheaper, and, although it hasn’t been officially released in the US, you can buy one via Amazon.

Available on Amazon in black or white, the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra features US LTE (compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile), but does not come with US warranty. If you’re buying the handset, which costs $329.99 unlocked, make sure it’s the E5506 model, not the E5553, since the latter doesn’t have US LTE. Rare white lion cubs are the first miracle of the holiday season

The Toronto Zoo’s eight-week-old lion cubs made their first public appearance on Thursday, displaying their cuteness in a video on the zoo’s YouTube channel.

Baby animals are almost always cute — but extremely rare baby animals? Who are only eight weeks old? And exploring their environment? They’re so adorable they would make Ebeneezer Scrooge himself squeal like a teenager at a Justin Bieber concert

The four male cubs were born Sep. 26 and 27, to white lion mother Makali. Doctors said their first 30 days of life would be crucial, and they are now reportedly all in good health

It is not yet possible to see the cubs at the zoo (they are still in the lion habitat’s maternity ward) but this video of them exploring the environment has already made them Internet darlings …

Alec Baldwin, Dr. Spock, George W. Bush and FDR can all trace their ancestry to 1 pilgrim

BOSTON — John Howland may not be as famous as William Bradford, John Carver and Myles Standish, notable passengers on the Mayflower that landed in Massachusetts in 1620.

Yet Howland probably had a greater impact on the history of the United States than any of themHundreds of thousands of Americans are unaware that they owe their very existence to Howland as they celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday that commemorates a feast shared between Native Americans and the Pilgrims of the Mayflower.

Howland boarded the ship as a servant of Carver, the first governor of the New Plymouth Colony, but he almost never made it to the New World. …

Stop blaming the turkey, you're just tired because you ate too much

It’s time we stop scapegoating the turkey

That holiday centerpiece is not making you fall into a tryptophan-induced coma

Enjoy your #tryptophan naps today!

— Bites N Sites (@Bitesnsites) November 26, 2015

It’s time to face facts: This is a myth.

Tryptophan, which is found in turkey, is an essential amino acid that helps produce the brain chemical serotonin. Serotonin is associated with relaxation and is also used to make melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep and wake cycles. Thus, tryptophan is associated with feeling sleepy

Since turkey is the most infamous carrier of tryptophan, it must be the only food that contains it, right? …
