Minecraft coming to Gear VR too: hold onto your virtual hats

Minecraft, that obsessively popular blocky world building game, has now been confirmed for release on Samsung’s Gear VR platform as well. Microsoft announced the title with Oculus at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Microsoft has already shown Minecraft on Hololens as well as Oculus Rift, so Gear VR is the next evolution.

There are no details yet on when Minecraft will be available for the Gear VR or how much it will cost, but considering the affordability and accessibility of Samsung’s virtual reality headset compared to the likes of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, you can only assume it will be a lot cheaper than on any other platform.

Not surprisingly, Minecraft in VR doesn’t take the hyper-reality angle other VR titles are shooting for, but instead provides a fully immersive 3D experience in those characteristically pixellated environments. Minecraft fans are going to absolutely love Minecraft VR and it looks like it will be available on pretty much every VR platform this year.
