Beating Intel and TSMC, Samsung outs 10nm cache memory for future mobile chipsets

Samsung is on track to produce 10nm chipsets faster than anyone else, it seems, including its direct TSMC foundry competition, or the juggernaut Intel. The company announced the development of a 10nm 128 Mb processor cache S-RAM memory, indicating that the rumored 10nm mobile SoC from Samsung shouldn’t be far behind. The advantages of the new production process are numerous – compared to the current 14nm process, the cell footprint is reduced with close to 40%, paving the way for even smaller chips with the same performance, and a lower power draw.

Just yesterday, observant Android enthusiasts noticed that arguably the most powerful automation tool available for the platform, Tasker, was sadly MIA from the Play Store.
It was taken down by Google due to violation of Android 6.0 Marshmallow’s Doze battery-saving optimizations.
As a reminder, Google is not keen on handset manufacturers or third-party developers meddling with its Doze:

Sony Xperia Z3+ officially launches in the US priced at $499.99

In many ways, the Sony Xperia Z3+ is one of the oddest smartphone launches of the year. Available as the Sony Xperia Z4 in Japan and as the Sony Xperia Z3+ in other parts of the world, the smartphone is only a minor iteration over the Sony Xperia Z3 from last year. Up until recently, the Xperia Z3+ was only available for purchase in the US through third-party resellers that do not offer US warranty, and if need be mentioned, buying a high-end smartphone without a warranty is a risky decision at best.

Google Photos is a way of spreading your photos from your device to the cloud. But the latest update isn’t about getting your images on Google’s servers. It’s about deleting them.

Early this summer, Google provided the option to free up space when Photos detected that your device was running low. The app would then delete local copies of photos that were already backed up online. Now this option should appear regardless of how much storage space you have left.
