Niantic CEO Hanke talks about adding more Pokemon, Player v. Player battles and more

Pokemon Go has seen 80% of its paid users vanish as though vaporized by a thunderbolt attack from Pikachu. But the CEO of game developer Niantic, John Hanke, has more up his sleeve than just his wrist. His task is not an easy one; it is harder to revive a mobile game with falling active user numbers than it is to survive a heart attack. Two words prove that: Draw Something.

Last week, Hanke spoke at Disrupt and pointed out the number of large markets where Pokemon Go has yet to launch officially. These areas include Russia, China, and parts of Asia and Africa. China alone could provide a … – Source

Tom Brady's son dabbed when he caught a touchdown pass from dad

The age-old practice of playing catch with dad takes on a different meaning when you’re John Brady, the son of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

The senior Brady is currently suspended from professional football and not allowed to visit team facilities. But that didn’t stop father and son from visiting the University of Michigan — Tom’s alma mater — to toss the pigskin around on a real football field.

When the 9-year-old Brady ran to the end zone and snatched his dad’s lobbed pass out of the air, he did what any self-respecting NFL player would do: he celebrated. …

Disney Does Brownface in Moana Costume Misfire

Disney’s latest film Moana is a celebration of Polynesian culture that, by all appearances, is aiming to be mindful and diverse. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the Halloween costume department got the memo.

The power of protocol analyzers

Enlarge / Some—like Russian Yuri Vlasov in 1960—impress friends with feats of physical strength. After mastering protocol analyzers, you’ll wow the crowds with IT muscles instead. (credit: Mark Kauffman / Getty Images)

In the complicated world of networking, problems happen. But determining the exact cause of a novel issue in the heat of the moment gets dicey. In these cases, even otherwise competent engineers may be forced to rely on trial and error once Google-fu gives out.

Luckily, there’s a secret weapon waiting for willing engineers to deploy—the protocol analyzer. This tool allows you to definitively determine the source of nearly any error, provided you educate yourself on the underlying protocol. The only catch for now? Many engineers avoid it entirely due to (totally unwarranted) dread.

What is a protocol analyzer?

A protocol analyzer, or “packet sniffer,” is a tool used to intercept traffic, store it, and present it in a decoded, human-readable state. Modern protocol analyzers like Wireshark can even spot rudimentary problems on their own and then perform statistical analyses with captured data.

8 thoughts we have while on our periods at work

LONDON — When you have your period at work, the struggle could not be more real, or more painful. Given half a chance, many of us would prefer to stay holed up in bed with a hot water bottle.

Pressure cooker device removed from NYC street after robot inspects it

A robot belonging to NYPD was sent in to inspect a “suspicious package” on the sidewalk in Chelsea, Manhattan early Sunday morning — blocks away from the site of an earlier explosion which injured 29 people.

Law enforcement sources described the package as a pressure cooker with “tapes, wires and a cell phone attached,” according to NBC News.

Small plane bursts into flames mid-air, landing on a couple's house

A couple were watching TV at home Saturday night, when a single engine plane crashed into their house in Glibert, Arizona. Amazingly, the pair have escaped unharmed.

Local police say the small aircraft was part of a demonstration for the annual Constitutional Fair, and crashed around 7:30 p.m. MDT Saturday night after catching fire mid-air.

It was a crazy stroke of luck for the skydivers on board too, who were left equally unharmed after ejecting from the plane before it crashed.

The pilot also ejected before landing, but was not so lucky, being transported for treatment after suffering burns. …

Hipsters queue for hours to order a drink from shot-sinking Bill Murray

Possibly anticipating a scene from Coffee and Cigarettes, in which Bill Murray plays the waiter serving Wu Tang’s GZA and RZA (hilarity ensues), hundreds of New Yorkers hit up 21 Greenpoint Friday night to catch a glimpse of the actor.

And Bill Murray did not disappoint. Not only did the cult hero show up to the launch of the new bar and resturant, owned by his son Homer Murray and partners — Bill got to work serving up shots, singing jovially and just generally being the legend that he is. He even reportedly took four shots in the first five minutes.

[Not Allo] Google starts advertising Duo on the Google.com homepage

Google rarely advertises anything on the Google.com homepage. Most of the time the ads consist of single-line text banners about a new Nexus device or donating to disaster relief. They were the subject of much criticism in 2012 when they used an animated advertisement (for the Nexus 7) on the homepage for the first time.

Google is once again using it’s influence as the homepage for millions of users – this time to promote Duo.

Watching the iPhone 7 get pancaked by hydraulic press is incredibly gratifying

We love our gadgets here at PhoneArena but even so, it’s always a treat to see the numerous ways in which they can be destroyed. Though dropping, bending, scratching and burning are all pretty fun, there’s surely nothing more gratifying than seeing a pristine slab of craftsmanship and innovation reduced to a useless, indeterminate pile of rubble. Having seen the beautiful Galaxy S7 edge burn and bleed to a painful death by means of hydraulic press, a unit of Apple’s new iPhone 7 has just been treated to a similar demise.

by the 7’s removal of the headphone jack, I’m having a much more difficult time getting used to this new haptic feedback home button. It just makes the whole phone feel dinky to me. I am frustrated.

Hasbro's controller app for the best R2-D2 toy ever is here (even though the toy isn't)

As someone who’s kind of exhausted by the amount of Star Wars promotional material that’s being vomited into our culture at the moment, I have to admit that the remote control BB-8 from Sphero is pretty awesome. Because even toys need sequels now, this year we’re getting the original adorable droid in remote control form: R2-D2. Hasbro is planning on releasing a similar toy, complete with all the smartphone connection goodies.

Reaching into his pocket, Strobel suffered a burned thumb, and his right leg received a severe burn. Kieth Pierro, Strobel’s attorney, said that his client “…has a deep second-degree burn, roughly the size of … – Source
