One month after launch, Pokemon Go has taken in over $200 million in revenue

According to analytical firm Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go is raking in the dough. One month after its electrifying launch, the game has grossed more than $200 million in revenue. To put this figure in prospective, the $200 million is twice the amount generated by hit game Clash Royale after its first 30-days. And it also is twice the revenue earned by Candy Crush Soda Saga during that game’s first month of availability.

The revenues come from in-app purchases Pokemon Go players make. Among the items offered for sale are Poke Balls, which are tossed at Pokemon in an attempt to catch them. … – Source

Unknown Sony Xperia handset receives FCC certification

An unknown Sony Xperia handset has been certified by the FCC. The device is known for now as the Sony 14784Z, or by its code name Kugo. Not much is known about this device outside of the 2700mAh battery that is said to power the unit. We wonder if this handset will be unveiled during Sony’s media event that will take place September 1st in Berlin at IFC.

During that event, Sony could be introducing a brand new flagship phone that has a model number of Xperia F8331. This phone reportedly does not look anything like the current Xperia X and older Xperia Z models. The device is rumored to offer … – Source

Report says Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will begin rolling August 9

The Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will start rolling out early next week, according to a new report. Specifically, unlocked Lumias and other Win10 devices will get the update starting August 9, while carrier branded handsets will receive it August 16 onwards.

The report says that a week’s delay will give carriers some extra time to test “features and enhancements” from the update. Of course, the said dates aren’t set in stone, and are subject to change in case of any last minute issues.

For those who missed, Microsoft also dropped hints of an August 9 roll out when its Lumia…

This is why we can’t have nice things.

On Saturday, a poor confused driver accidentally backed her Mercedes Benz convertible over a Ferrari 528. The incident took place in Great Falls, Virginia outside the store Katie’s Classic Cars & Coffee. What more needs to be said?

Data-fusion companies are making files on everyone — even you

Forget telephoto lenses and fake mustaches: The most important tools for America’s 35,000 private investigators are database subscription services.

For more than a decade, professional snoops have been able to search troves of public and nonpublic records — known addresses, DMV records, photographs of a person’s car — and condense them into comprehensive reports costing as little as $10. Now they can combine that information with the kinds of things marketers know about you, such as which politicians you donate to, what you spend on groceries, and whether it’s weird that you ate in last night, to create a portrait of your life and predict your behavior. …

#IndigenousDads trends in Australia in powerful response to 'racist' cartoon

Loving, supportive and wise. Indigenous fathers are all those things, and more.

That’s the message of the hashtag #IndigenousDads, which has been trending on Australian Twitter in the wake of an offensive cartoon published Thursday in The Australian newspaper.

This is the phone that Motorola once called "the most powerful smartphone in the world"

These days, a fingerprint scanner on a smartphone is no big deal, and octa-core CPUs are seen on mid-range handsets. But back in early 2011, the Motorola Atrix 4G was one of the first smartphones to feature a dual-core processor. The AT&T exclusive also featured a fingerprint scanner. Unlike today’s rear-facing scanners and the ones found embedded inside a home button, the Atrix 4G had its fingerprint scanner inside the power button. It was placed on an angle on the top of the back cover. It worked so poorly that it set back biometrics on smartphones for about two years. The fingerprint … – Source

Apple Lightning EarPods shown off on video

We have been seeing pictures of Apple’s Lightning EarPods for a while now, the same ones that will supposedly be shipped with the iPhone 7 that will supposedly come without a headphone jack.

The video below by Mobile Fun, UK’s largest online mobile accessory retailer, shows a working pair of Lightning EarPods. The design seems consistent with Apple’s current EarPods. The major differences are of course a Lightning connector instead of a standard 3.5mm TRRRS connector. The remote module is also bigger, most likely to house the DAC/amp if the Lightning EarPods use a digital connection. The…
