What’s the point of virtual reality?

VR needs content if it’s to be more than a flash in the early adopter pan. But it’s pretty clear that in the short term at least it’s not going to have a whole lot of compelling content. And understandably so. It’s a new medium, after all, and figuring out how to create exciting ‘experiences’, as the VR pushers put it, is going to take time… Read More

Fitbit heart rate tracking said to be risky and "all over the place"

Fitness trackers are all the rage these days, but unless a tracker is making medical claims they aren’t put to the rigorous testing to make sure the sensors are accurate. And, that is the center of the troubles for Fitbit right now. Fitbit is in the middle of a class action lawsuit where the plaintiffs are claiming that Fitbit’s heart rate measurements are inaccurate. In order to test those claims, Dr. Edward Jo, assistant professor of Applied Physiology at California State Polytechnic University, and his colleague Dr Brett Dolezal were asked by the court to perform independent testing … – Source

How this epic 4,845-inch 'Star Wars' infographic found its Force

Exactly 39 years ago Wednesday, a movie called Star Wars opened in a mere 32 theaters across the U.S. It soon became kind of a big deal. But who has the time to rewatch it? Even one of its stars, Mark Hamill, admits he hasn’t seen the two-hour original movie in nearly 20 years.

Lucky for those of us who need a refresher — or haven’t seen it at all — graphic artist and illustrator Martin Panchaud has created an epic infographic that tells the entire story of the original movie, later renamed Episode IV: A New Hope.

Moxi's bendable phone bends it like Gumby; device will launch in China later this year

Soon to be unveiled in China is the first truly bendable phone made by a company whose name is written as Moxi. In Chinese, this is pronounced “mou-she.” In the language, it is short for the secret behind the phone’s flexability. That is the material graphene, which we told you last month “is the thinnest, lightest, strongest, most transparent, and most heat and electricity-conductive material known to scientists.” Thanks to graphene, the phone built by Moxi can be worn like a watch or a bracelet, and then stretched out to be shaped like a regular smartphone.

There is a caveat. The Moxi … – Source
