Mio Fuse reviewed: A fitness band that works better than it looks

Video shot/edited by Jennifer Hahn. (video link)

Mio has been in the fitness tracker market for a long time, but it’s seldom mentioned in the same breath as Fitbit, Jawbone, and Garmin. Mio was one of the first companies to focus on wrist-bound heart rate monitoring, and its monitors are known for their accuracy. The $129 Fuse is the middle-of-the-road Mio device, competing with some of the newest products from Fitbit and Garmin. It features an optical heart rate monitor and daily activity tracking, but not much else.

Now after a few updates, the Fuse also tracks sleep, and it works with Mio’s new PAI app, which uses its heart rate analysis to give you personal activity intelligence points when you keep your pulse elevated. While the Mio Go app gives you a daily picture of your activity, PAI provides a long-term view to encourage you to complete high-intensity activities as often as you can. If you’re considered a mid-level Fitbit or Garmin device, the Fuse is another viable option if you’re looking for a no-frills, no-nonsense tracker.

We can run the world without consuming the earth: The Solar Impulse journey continues

In ancient Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of Daedulus who dared to fly too close to the sun on wings of feather and wax made by his father in spite of Daedulus’ warning. The heat from the sun melted the wax and Icarus fell to his death. It is meant to be a cautionary tale — and underscores the power of the sun.

It is the same sun that is ultimately a source of energy we use on Earth – from indirect, stored versions such as hydroelectric and fossil fuels like coal to new, clean forms like direct solar.

Weekly poll: HTC 10 - hot or not?

The HTC 10 is the last to join this spring’s flagship party, with the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 announced some two months ago, and already widely available. Even the Huawei P9 beat the HTC 10 to it by a week. So it begs the question is the 10 fashionably late, or just late?

The Koreans will give it a nod for the QHD resolution on its Super LCD 5(who’s counting) – HTC didn’t make the jump from FullHD last year, but 2017 would have been too late. They share the same heart too, at least in some parts of the world – the Snapdragon 820.

The Taiwanese company also takes Samsung’s approach…

Is this the front panel of the 6.4-inch Xiaomi Max?

Out of China today, a photograph leaked online allegedly showing the front panel of the rumored Xiaomi Max phablet. The device, which got its name from an online poll, will sport a 6.4-inch display with thin side bezels. The art of finding work-life balance with your smartphone

After a long day of work, you probably find yourself curled up on the couch, binge-watching Netflix, and…scrolling through work emails on your phone.

Smartphones offer numerous apps to tackle tasks quickly both inside and outside the office. Often, though, that comes at the expense of your work-life balance.
