Archery company drops foam-arrow patent case against LARPer

(credit: Newegg)

An Indiana archery company that sued a prominent live-action role play (LARP) website will drop its claims that the website’s owner infringed two patents on foam arrows.

John Jackson, founder of Global Archery, told Ars that he decided to drop his patent case against Larping.org owner Jordan Gwyther after analyzing a patent on the German-made iDV arrows that Gwyther sells.

The lawsuit isn’t over, however—Jackson also sued Gwyther for allegedly infringing his trademark, for buying Google ads keyed to it, and for false advertising.

Report: Wii U will be Nintendo’s shortest-lived home console

This patent application may point to Nintendo’s next home-console controller—and now, it may be the only thing that Nintendo Wii U fans can look forward to, thanks to a Wednesday report from Japanese business publication Nikkei. (credit: US Patent Application 2015/0355768)

Nintendo’s Japanese arm has assured investors that the company will unveil its new gaming console, currently code-named Nintendo NX, by the end of this year, but it hasn’t had nearly as much to say about the future of its current major home product, the Nintendo Wii U. That might be because its time is nigh. In spite of a few major Wii U exclusives slated to launch this year—particularly a major new Legend of Zelda game—a major Japanese business publication has now claimed that the hardware in question will cease production by the end of 2016.

A Wednesday-morning report from Japan’s Nikkei pegs this year as the final year of Wii U hardware production—a crazy prediction, to be sure, considering that its console successor doesn’t even have an official name or release date. However, that report also backs up its claim with the allegation that some Wii U accessories have already been discontinued.

If true, that may explain why Japan saw some substantial Wii U shortages in the past few months. A Nintendo World Report story in February pointed to a substantial sales drop-off in Japan after selling 250,000 Wii U consoles in December of last year and over 40,000 consoles in January 2016. That count dropped to 4,000 for the first week of February.

Is this a Huawei P9 spotted in the wild in the hands of the company’s president?

Huawei is currently running a very teasing ad campaign regarding the upcoming P9, which isn’t slated to be officially revealed until April 6. However, enough images have been leaked of the device so far that we already have a pretty decent idea of what the handset will look like. Unless this is an elaborate ruse on an unprecedented scale, it looks like we’ve gotten another glimpse of the P9 in the hands of Huawei’s president.

What do we know so far about the Huawei P9? First and foremost, the dual camera riding on the back seems to be cause for celebration among the brand’s fans. We can’t wait to actually get our hands on the device and see how well the dual 12MP cameras do in terms of image quality. That’s a rumored spec, of course, but there are many other rumored specs for the P9 running around. For instance, we believe it will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box, and that it’s powered by 3GB of RAM and a Kirin 950 chipset. The screen is a delightful 5.2-inch 1080p screen by all accounts, and we’d be very surprised to find it’s packing anything other than a 3,000mAh battery. The selfie snapper? Word on the street is 5MP.

What do you think of the Huawei’s latest flagship? Excited to see it finally unveiled two weeks from now? Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
