OnePlus introduces new warranty program for its European and Indian customers

Aiming to improve its customer support and services, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has announced a new smartphone warranty program. Launched in collaboration with Simplesurance and B2X in Europe and India, respectively, the service on the Old Continent is called On-Guard, while the latter’s offerings include OnePlus Service2 and Protect2.

The On-Guard plan will cover breakage, accidental or liquid damage, damage caused due to dropping and even vandalism. It costs €39.99 for 12 months and €64.99 for 24 moths. Those interested can purchase the plan on oneplus.net upon checkout for their OnePlus smartphone.

However, keep in mind that you can purchase the On-Guard plan only within 15 days of the purchase, which means if you are a OnePlus One owner, or have purchased the OnePlus 2 prior to this, you are currently out of luck. “These services will also be extending to the OnePlus X, upon its sale in the respective regions,” the company said in a blog post.

Details related to B2X’s OnePlus Service2 and Protect2 plans can be accessed by heading to the Source link below.

Climate change could have a significant impact on our economy

Meanwhile, in the realm of actual legitimate concerns. (credit: IPCC)

Climate change may have many economic impacts, including loss of crops, changes in water supply, increased incidence of natural disaster, and spikes in health care costs related to infectious diseases and temperature related illness. However, hard evidence about the effects of climate change on economic activity has been inconsistent.

A new paper published in Nature takes on the ambitious task of connecting micro and macro level estimates of climate costs. The study finds that climate change can be expected to reshape the global economy by reducing average global incomes roughly 23 percent by the year 2100. This study is important because it solves a problem that has existed in prior models of climate change effects on economics: discrepancies between macro and micro level observations. This study presents the first evidence that economic activity in all regions is coupled in some way to global climate. The study also sets up a new empirical paradigm for modeling economic loss in response to climate change.

The study uses data from the years 1960 to 2010 to analyze what’s clearly a complex relationship between temperature and economic productivity. The authors’ analysis uses a novel approach to dealing with confounding variables, which allowed them to account for four important factors: (1) constant differences between countries, such as cultural differences, (2) common contemporaneous shocks, such as global price changes, (3) country-specific trends in growth rates, and (4) non-linear effects of annual average temperature and rainfall.

Russia's Metrojet says technical fault couldn't have caused Egypt crash

A top official at Metrojet, the Russian airline company whose flight crashed Saturday in Egypt, has insisted that a technical fault could not have caused the crash.

Alexander Smirnov, the deputy general director of Metrojet, told reporters Monday in Moscow that no technical fault could have caused the Airbus A320-200 to break up in the air. He says the cause of the crash “could only have been a mechanical impact on the plane” in the air.

Lumia 950 and 950 XL see further price cuts in Europe

After Microsoft dropped the prices of its Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones in the UK, the devices have also received a price cut in France, where Amazon is now selling the black Lumia 950 for around €563 and both black and white Lumia 950 XL variants for €649 each.

Earlier, the e-commerce giant was selling the handsets for €599 and €699, respectively, in the country. Keep in mind that Amazon France ships all over Europe, and these new prices are a better deal than what Microsoft is offering in the UK – £450 (€629) for the Lumia 950 and £530 (€741) for the 950 XL.

Both devices are currently up for pre-orders in Europe. While there’s still no word on when the handsets would start shipping in France, over in the UK, the date is December 3.
