This woman's Welsh name is too much for Starbucks staff to handle

LONDON — Anyone with a slightly complex or difficult-to-pronounce name will understand Siân David’s pain all too well.

David — who tells us her first name is pronounced “Shh-ahh-n, to rhyme with Khan (as in Imran Khan)” — has bought many a coffee from Starbucks, and nine times out of ten she’ll end up with something completely random scrawled on her cardboard takeaway cup.

After awhile, David began to take photos documenting the impressive range of misspellings she encountered.

Outstanding cases for the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is arguably one of the best compact smartphones around and without a doubt, an exemplar of what the Android scene can currently offer – a well-equipped device that comes with a few issues. Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' on sale in German bookstores for first time in 70 years

A German historical institute is launching an annotated edition of Mein Kampf, the first version of Adolf Hitler’s notorious manifesto to be published in Germany since the end of World War II.

Bavaria’s state finance ministry had previously prevented the book’s publication, but its copyright expired 70 years after the Nazi leader’s death.

Germany’s education minister said Friday that the new version being launched in Munich would help debunk myths surrounding the work.

Johanna Wanka told German channel n-tv that the book, which was never formally banned, was already widely available online and that the annotations would “show pupils what criminal views could be found in Hitler’s book right from the start.” …

Lenovo to remove Motorola brand name from its phones

Motorola owner Lenovo will stop using the Motorola name for its phones in 2016. Instead, the company will call its cheaper phones Vibe and its high-end devices Moto

“We’ll slowly phase out Motorola and focus on Moto,” Motorola Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh told CNET on Thursday

While Motorola hasn’t really used the name “Motorola” on its phone packaging since 2013, the name was still used in conjunction with the Moto devices, but from now on they’ll be branded Moto by Lenovo

The “batwing” M logo will still be prominent on the devices, and Lenovo will keep the Motorola name alive in a business context, though …

Sharpen your swords because we know when Game of Thrones starts

Do not mess with the Queen of Dragons. (credit: HBO)

You know that feeling when you fly on the back of a wild dragon who has rescued you from an angry mob, and then it lands in a remote area full of another angry mob, but you still feel badass because of the aforementioned dragon and your uncanny ability to walk through fire unscathed? Well, that’s how we feel right now, because there’s an official air date for the premiere episode of Game of Thrones’ sixth season.

Prepare to glue your face to the monitor of your choice on April 24, when HBO kicks off a season that promises to be pretty intense. First of all, Bran is back—so you can expect some serious magic and warging. Then there is the dragon situation I’ve already discussed. Plus Arya is still in assassin high school, there is family drama in King’s Landing, and Brienne of Tarth is definitely going to cut somebody with her sword soon. Oh yeah, plus winter is seriously coming for real now, and Jon Snow is playing Schrödinger’s cat until we find out for sure whether he’s dead or alive.

With season six, we’ll also leave the George R.R. Martin books behind. Martin is still finishing up The Winds of Winter, though it’s set to publish this year. That’s right—the book this season is based on hasn’t actually come out yet. The author has been sharing his plans with the producers of Game of Thrones, so there will be some crossover. But for now at least, your friends who have read the books can’t threaten you with spoilers.

Goats cannot, will not eat any more of your Christmas trees

Goats might look like they’re naturally healthy, but it takes work to maintain their impeccable figures. Sometimes, even they have to say “no” to their favorite snacks and treats.

Every year, a program in San Francisco gives local goats Christmas trees to consume. But recently, the city’s fire officials announced that goats had reached their Christmas tree capacity. Despite the trees’ one-of-a-kind acid and brittle flavor, goats were starting to refuse the holiday delicacy.

Lenovo to phase out Motorola name (UPDATE)

Motorola, the company associated with walkie talkies used by the Allies in World War II and the company that kicked off Androidmania with the launch of the Motorola DROID in 2009, is going away. Today’s report is something of a shocker considering that back in August, Lenovo said that it would merge its Lenovo Mobile division into the Motorola group and stop using the Lenovo name for phones and tablets.

The Motorola name will stay alive as a corporate division inside the Chinese manufacturer, and the Motorola ‘batwing’ logo will still be used on handsets. While the Moto name will … – Source

App-Improvement AI And The Future Of Web Development

Artificial intelligence (AI) is permeating our lives — just not in the ways we might have expected from reading sci-fi novels or watching robot apocalypse-themed movies. Instead of having live robots walking around, doing our dishes and engaging us in conversation, AI exists primarily in web and mobile apps designed to help us with small intellectual chores, like finding out when the… Read More

Sony shows off 360-degree 4K video shot on its Xperia Z5 Compact

Sony didn’t announce any new smartphone at CES 2016, so it’s still hard at work promoting the handsets released last year, including the Xperia Z5 family.

The very latest promo video that Sony is sharing with the world is showing 4K, 360-degree footage entirely shot on Xperia Z5 Compact smartphones. Since a single Z5 Compact can’t shoot 360-dregree video (no smartphone can), Sony had to use no less than 12 devices, mounting them on a custom 3D printed ring. Each of the 12 handsets shot 4K video, so Sony says it’s ended up having a 48K (12 x 4) video. In reality, though, the final video … – Source
