Om Puri's marriage in trouble yet again

Om PuriWhile for some, Bollywood may spell Mecca of all the dream aspirations, for many others, Bollywood is nothing, but the mother of all contradictions! For the simple reason is that, the stars' real life will be in pure contrast to their reel life. One name that has cropped up in the recent past is that of the veteran actor Om Puri, who was in the centre of a controversy, courtesy his biography published by his wife! While things seemed to have settled down, the dirty snake called controversy raised its ugly head yet again, this time round, it involves not just one but both his wives, viz. his ex wife Seema Kapoor as well as his current wife Nandita Puri. Here's what happened: Apparently, on Friday morning, Nandita (who was accompanied by two of her friends Rita and Mona) found her husband Om Puri at his ex-wife Seema Kapoor's Oshiwara house. Unable to take (read 'see') this, she allegedly started hurling abuses. Reports have it that this was the reason for Seema to file a complaint with the Oshiwara police station against Nandita, who in turn, also filed a complaint against Seema Kapoor. Seema confirmed her filing police complaint. Nandita in turn, stated that Om Puri had not returned home the whole night and then she found out that he was with Seema. A police official from Oshiwara police station said that, it was a case of domestic dispute, and that they are investigating the case.

No more 'once upon a time' for Emraan Hashmi

Emraan HashmiIt's confirmed. Emraan Hashmi won't be a part of the sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. Though it was announced that Akshay Kumar would be stepping into the shoes of Dawood Ibrahim for this Milan Luthria film, there were speculations around Emraan having a part to play in the sequel. "It is going to be an entirely different cast for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2", informs a source, "There were murmurs around Emraan stepping into the film for a few days to shoot a few flashback sequences. However, these speculations have turned out to be baseless. There never was any scope for Emraan to join the film from the very first day." However, the actor wasn't sure about it at least around the time when the film was announced with Akshay. He had then said, "I don't know whether I am a part of the sequel or not. So far neither Ekta nor Milan have informed me about it. I am not sure." In fact this had also led to the rumours around all not being well between the actor and the makers. After all, the gangster film was a huge success due to Emraan's bravura act as well. While Ajay Devgn was expectedly good as a seasoned actor, Emraan was the surprise package of the film. "Even though Ajay's character (based on Haji Mastan) was killed in the film, Emraan's character had lived on. Everyone would have thought that the sequel would be made with him but there was a surprise in store when Akshay Kumar was roped in instead as a central protagonist", comments a trade guru. However, after weeks of silence, it has now been revealed that Emraan Hashmi would have no role to play in the sequel. Also, the actor too seems to be undeterred by the developments and is taking it all lightly. "I am not a part of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2. I was never approached for it either", Emraan sets the records straight, "I have no complaints though. As makers, Milan and Ekta have the right to go for anyone who they find suitable for a role. It is entirely their prerogative." He also rubbishes insinuations around all not being well between him and the Once Upon A Time.... team. "No, there is no fight whatsoever. If that was the case, I wouldn't have been doing their The Dirty Picture, right", reasons Emraan before signing off.

Imran Khan clarifies his PIL against drinking age limit

Imran KhanClick above for more event stills Just a few days back the news that the drinking age limit was raised from 21 to 25 made headlines in almost all daily publications and news channels. Ever since there have been various discussions and debates citing both the pros and cons of this new law. Bollywood's young and budding star Imran Khan recently filed a PIL against this law and spoke to the media yesterday on his stand. Clarifying his stand, Imran said, "I would like to state for the record that I do not endorse the consumption of alcohol. Alcohol can damage health, ruin careers and tear families apart if it is abused. I know this because I have seen it first-hand with friends and family. Nor am I motivated by selfish reasons; I am 28 years old, and free to consume alcohol if I choose. I am raising this debate on a personal level, not as a star. This is why I have chosen not to speak about it on a platform while promoting my film. The reason I have taken this initiative is that I am troubled by a growing perception that young people need to be "handled" or "managed". That we are incapable of making rational, informed decisions for ourselves. I cannot deny that we may be at least partially to blame for this; I have participated in campaigns encouraging young people to vote for the past two years, and the response has generally been quite disheartening. However, that is a discussion for another time. As members of a democratic society, it is our right, and sometimes our duty to stand up and ask if our government is doing the right thing. The recent decision by the State Government to raise the legal drinking age from 21 to 25 is, in my opinion, illogical and counterproductive. I do not believe that this new law will stop under-25s from drinking. It will merely encourage them to purchase fake ID cards and to bribe officials if they are caught. It will increase corruption and give rise to a new breed of criminals; bootleggers. There will be absolutely no shortage in the amount of alcohol supplied to people under 25. All that will be accomplished is that we will have made criminals of 30% of our population, and nurtured a new black market trade of alcohol. It is my opinion that this law is in violation of our Constitutional rights. At the age of 21, we are legally permitted to vote, to marry, have children, to enlist for military service, and if need be, to give our lives in defence of our country. If a person is an adult in the eyes of the government, they should be free to indulge in any legal activity of their choice, without concern for clauses and add-ons to the law. I am afraid that if we stand by and let this pass, we pave the way for any number of laws to curtail our liberties. What is to stop someone from proposing a limit on the number of children a couple can have, in order to manage our steadily-growing population? We all have a tendency to complain about things without taking action, which is why I have decided to approach the courts and actually do something. They are mediators, and are in a position to judge the merit of my opinion. It is not my intention to antagonize anyone with disruptive means of protest, rather I hope to bring up this debate and resolve it in a productive way." Imran has also initiated a signature campaign called "Power To Youth" on a social networking website for the cause, where he already has people supporting his campaign.

Rockstar release might be pushed to November

Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Imran KhanIt looks like the glam-dream of seeing the three gen-X superstars Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan locked in a battle to the finish would remain just a fantasy. The expected clash on September 9 among Shahid's Mausam, Ranbir's Rockstar and Imran's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is not happening.
Though official sources claim otherwise, Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar has been moved forward to November. There seem to be no limits to the delays being caused in the release of Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. Though officially the latest release date is September 9, there is no doubt the film has been secretly shifted to November and with every chance of there being further delays. In fact a source very close to the project confirms Rockstar has been shifted to November while the film producers, Eros International, maintain the status quo on the release. Says Ram Mirchandani of Eros, "As of now we are not in a position to comment on whether the release date has been shifted from September 9.As soon as we get a clearer picture we will let you know." However, a source from Rockstar pooh-poohs the September release plan. "For now we've shifted to November. But this again is not sure. We could move further ahead." The latest buzz is that Rockstar may not be released this year at all. It could now be released at the beginning of 2012. The main reason for the interminable delay is said to be the music. Says the source, "A R Rahman has still to do a couple of tunes and the full background music. However, director Imtiaz Ali is really happy with the music that Rahman has done so far. In fact Imtiaz knows the musical film is being transported to another level thanks to Rahman's music. However, the delay is proving expensive to the film's producers Eros International and Shree Ashtavinayak. It's also Nargis Fakhri's debut film. And she's getting anxious to sign other films. She is flooded with offers. But as per her contract until Rockstar releases she can't sign any other film." The biggest sufferer is Anurag Basu and his producer UTV whose dates for Ranbir Kapoor in Barfee keep getting allotted to Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. With the songs for Rockstar yet to be delivered, it looks like Basu's Barfee may yet have to suffer some more date-adjustment hassles with the other project.

Delhi Belly song 'DK Bose' lands censor board in trouble

Delhi BellyDelhi Belly's song 'DK Bose' which has been picturised on Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor and has got an overwhelming response from some of the music lovers has now put the Censor Board in trouble. Lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya has smartly played with words to get away with a commonly used Hindi cuss word in the song. Though the song is accepted by a certain section of the audiences, it seems like some people are really angry with the Censor Board for allowing the song to be screened in theatres along with 'U' certified films and to be played on TV. They feel it's a bad influence on the youth. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now sent a formal mail to the Censor Board questioning their actions on giving a go ahead to Delhi Belly song 'DK Bose', after receiving several mails and letters from angry masses demanding an explanation for having passed a song with a word that sounds obscene when played in loop. The song has been sung and composed by Ram Sampat.
