A total of 2.5 million Samsung Galaxy Note7 units were shipped before the company announced a global recall for the phablet over battery fire hazard. Obviously, the step will have a strong financial impact on the tech giant, but just how much the figure is?

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 might launch as early as next week
If a couple of recent leaks are to go by, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 – which has already been the subject of several rumors and leaks – might be made official as early as next week. The first leak, which comes courtesy of a Weibo user, reveals a September 14 release.
It also reveals some of the device’s key specifications, including 5.7-inch display, Snapdragon 821 chipset, and 13MP dual camera.
The second leak comes in the form of a teaser image that has 9.24 written on it, indicating a September 24 unveiling for the smartphone.

First mentioned in June, Apple has now officially made some changes that allow third party developers to offer automatically renewable subscriptions from inside an iOS app. As the length of the subscription comes to an end, the subscriber will automatically be charged for another subscription of the same length. This repeats over and over until the subscriber decides to cancel it.

Niantic might not technically be part of Google anymore, but it looks like at least a few people at the old stomping grounds are keeping up with the AR development team’s progress. Reddit user GoldLeader272 noticed a juicy new addition to the activity selector in the Timeline feature of Google Maps yesterday: users can now indicate that they were “catching Pokémon,” i.e. playing Pokémon GO on their phones. Users can even update Timeline activities on the Android app: go to “Your timeline,” tap on the travel (car, walking, bus, cycling, etc.) icon, and then edit it to “catching Pokémon.” Neat.

When hurricane-force winds are whipping violently over the ocean, the safest place for seabirds may be right in the eye of the storm.
Lease terns, royal terns, sooty terns and frigatebirds were spotted over Florida last Friday as Hermine — currently a post-tropical cyclone — made landfall over the Sunshine State.
Snapshots of weather radars showed flocks of birds trapped in Hermine’s eye, which likely provided a space of relative calm as the storm’s winds peaked at 80 miles per hour late last week.
