Sydney siege victims to be remembered with a permanent sea of flowers

After the Sydney siege on Dec. 15, 2014, the pavement near the site of the attack became a sea of flowers as mourners came to pay their respects to those who died.

Those flowers will now be immortalised as part of a permanent memorial in Martin Place in downtown Sydney, not far from the Lindt cafe where gunman Man Haron Monis held 18 people hostage for 16 hours. Tori Johnson, 34, and Katrina Dawson, 38, lost their lives in the incident — Johnson was shot by Monis, while Dawson was felled by stray police bullets

Monis was also shot by police when they stormed the premises.
