Museum to fix King Tut's burial mask after secret damage, sloppy glue job

More than a year after the beard of the famed King Tutankhamun burial mask was accidentally broken off and glued back on, the relic is set to be restored this week to its former glory


A German-Egyptian team will begin restoration Saturday to address the damage done to the 3,300-year-old mask in August 2014, when the beard became detached during maintenance to the exhibit and was reattached with epoxy glue, according to the Associated Press.

The incident was not publicly acknowledged by the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, where the mask is housed, until January, at which time officials said the glue could be removed and the mask repaired …
