India's Irrfan Khan and Some Fake Dinosaurs Score $97 Million Opening for "Jurassic World" in China

Keeping India’s movie star presence very much alive in China, Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan thundered into Middle Kingdom multiplexes (along with a few computer generated dinosaurs) to lead Jurassic World to a $97 million opening week, the 4th best ever in Chinese movie theater annals.

Khan took the box office baton from fellow countryman Aamir Khan, whose film PK has smashed all records for Bollywood releases in China, with total box office receipts of $18.5 million through Sunday. The previous Indian record-holder in China, Dhoom 3, topped out at just $3.1 million a year earlier. India’s prospects as both a supplier of films to China and also as a co-production partner have picked up encouraging momentum this year.

In the latest Jurassic Park sequel Khan plays the role of Simon Masrani, CEO and owner of the Masrani Corporation and owner of the pest-ridden Jurassic World park. Without giving too much away, let’s just say that Masrani runs into some problems with a dinosaur called Indominus Rex, problems that make it unlikely he’ll be appearing in the next sequel. – Source
