India's first transgender college principal resigns as colleagues fail to get over her sexual identity


Struggling to find acceptance from some, India’s first transgender college principal has quit from her job.

Dr. Manabi Bandopadhyay, who served as the principal (headmistress) of Krishnagar Women’s College, has submitted her resignation, District Magistrate Sumit Gupta said.


Bandopadhyay cited “non-cooperation” from a section of teachers and students for her decision to resign. She said this behaviour from her colleagues and students instilled tremendous mental stress, adding that her sexual identity overshadowed all of her decisions. …
