Sony Xperia X Performance will hit Europe in July for €699

Sony announced the official pricing of its Xperia X series. If you were hoping for the Xperia XA, Xperia X, and Xperia X Performance to be priced competitively, you’ll probably be a little disappointed.

Xperia X price and release date

The good news is the Xperia X will be cheaper than the Amazon UK listing from last week has led us to believe. In the UK, Sony will sell the Xperia X for £469, which is £30 cheaper than the current pre-order price on Amazon, and a whopping £80 cheaper than the initial Amazon pre-order price of £549.

While cheaper than we feared, the Xperia X is still expensive compared to some of its peers. For comparison, the Galaxy S7 sells in the UK for £462, while the LG G5 goes for £490. Both devices feature top of the line specs, including a Snapdragon 820 processor, as opposed to the mid-range Snapdragon 650 inside the Xperia X.

Across other European markets, the Sony Xperia X will cost €599 (France, Germany, Netherlands) or €629 (Italy, Spain).

The Xperia X will be released in the week starting May 23.

The Xperia X Performance is the top of the line in Sony’s new X range (which abruptly ended the reign of the Xperia Z series). The device runs on a Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB of RAM, features a 5-inch Full HD display and a 23MP camera. It’s the direct competitor to flagships from Samsung, LG, or HTC. The former two can be bought for around €600 in Europe, while the HTC 10 is available for €700.

In Europe, the Sony Xperia X Performance will cost €699 (France, Netherlands) or €729 (Italy, Spain). Curiously, Sony did not announce any details about the availability of the device in the UK and Germany, two of the continent’s largest markets.

In Europe, Sony will start shipping the Xperia X Performance from the week starting July 4.

Xperia XA price and release date

Finally, the smallest sibling of the X family, the Xperia XA packs mid-range specs into an attractive design with a “bezel-less” 5-inch display.

In Europe, the Xperia XA will be available for €299 (France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy), €329 (Spain) or £239 (UK).

The Xperia XA will start shipping from the week of June 20.

Quantum computing is still very much in the early research stage, but IBM is hoping to accelerate the progress around it by making a quantum computer available to researchers as a cloud service. Brazil's Latest WhatsApp Ban Gets Lifted On Appeal After Only One Day

Yesterday Brazil made headlines by once again blocking the function of mega-popular SMS replacement service WhatsApp for 72 hours. The reasons were… complicated. Apparently. We don’t actually know the reason – the purpose of the ruling has been sealed by the court in the state of Sergipe which issued it. But fear not, Brazilian WhatsApp users: you now have access to the service once again, thanks to some quick work on the part of the WhatsApp and the ruling of an appeals court.

WordPress 5.4 Beta For Android Finally Introduces A Proper Visual Editor

This post is a bit meta, as Android Police itself is a WordPress-powered site. But anyone who uses WordPress will appreciate the massive, much-needed feature introduced in the beta version of the Android app today: finally, a true visual editor.

You see, previous versions of the WordPress Android app have offered a semi-functional visual editor when publishing or editing content, but this editor was extremely basic. Certain formatting and content like bolding, italicizing, underlining, strikethrough, quote blocks, hyperlinks, and images could be previewed live in the editor – but only when publishing a new post.
