Filmmaker Mani Kaul passes away
Veteran filmmaker Mani Kaul passed away this morning in Delhi. The director had been suffering from cancer for a while. Mani Kaul has won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie for 4 of his films including Uski Roti, Ashad Ka Ek Din, Duvidha and Idiot (which featured Shah Rukh Khan during the early stages of his career). The director was a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) where he studied under veteran filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. He also won the National Award in 1989 for the Best Documentary- Siddheshwari. Bollywood personalities paid their tribute to the legendary filmmaker on Twitter. Anupam Kher tweeted, "Mani Kaul was one of the pioneers of new wave cinema in India. And a great conversationalist. Will miss his persona. RIP." In an age where mergers and tie-ups are the name of the game, we have the 'Badshah of Bollywood' Shah Rukh Khan who recently tied up with Comcraft for their brand KidZania. The actor recently acquired a 26% stake in the company. This came after the international family entertainment conglomerate was searching for a stake holder for its Indian franchise. KidZania, a Mexico based family entertainment centre or indoor park, allows children between the ages of 5 to 13 years to participate in role playing games based on adult occupations within a miniature city. The first of these is apparently scheduled to open in R-City Mall in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. The centre will be spread over more than 70,000 square feet. Similar edutainment centres are also likely to be opened later in Delhi and Bangalore.Producer Gaurang Doshi sentenced to three years imprisonment
It's a classic case of 'real life' following 'reel life'. Well, in this case, it is Bollywood producer Gaurang Doshi who is in the spot light. Gaurang has been held guilty of cruelty to his wife, for which he has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a Magistrate's court. However, Doshi, the producer of the 2002 hit Aankhen, starring Amitabh Bachchan, is currently absconding. This ruling comes following the maximum punishment prescribed by law, for the offence of wife-beating under section 498A of the Indian Penal Code. Though Gaurang is absconding, the police are on Doshi's trail and expect to arrest him soon. Though Doshi could have surrendered before the magistrate and then sought bail, he was not on the scene, even six hours after the court's order. Hence a standing non-bailable warrant and conviction warrant against him has been issued.Mugdha Godse buys new flat in Mumbai

Karan Johar is always the man of every season and every reason. And frankly speaking, he has every reason to be so. If Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho etc. were anything to go by, then, watch out for an array of films like Agneepath, Short Term Shaadi and so on, coming from his production house, which will hit the silver screens in the days to come. And the days to come will also see the 'brand' called Karan Johar becoming the brand ambassador of Lloyd Electronics, according to Bollywood Hungama's ever so reliable sources. The official announcement of the same is being awaited.Ramu threatened; files police complaint and gets security

Trust Ram Gopal Varma to be in the news constantly. His audacious proclamation that he is willing to work with the alleged killer actress Maria Susairaj has raised the hackles of radical political parties in Maharashtra.
On Monday, Ramu received a threatening letter allegedly from the Bharatiya Janta Party warning him of dire consequences if he insisted on working with Maria. Ramu promptly complained to the police. On Tuesday afternoon he lodged a former complaint at the Versova police station. His office and home are now surrounded by a posse of policemen. Sounding anything but intimidated, Ramu said after filing the complaint, "It's something I had to do. If some elements threaten me with dire consequences I've to guard myself, no? I received a threatening letter on Monday. Now don't ask me details of what the police station looked like, if they offered me tea or...for the record the cop in-charge was having tea but he didn't offer me any." Getting more serious Ramu says, "It's easy enough to target me because I'm the only one who actually said I'd sign Maria if I had a role for her. I don't think anyone else made that offer. And my offer remains." Ramu says he is not being defiant or audacious. Simply logical. "See, Maria is not my sister or my girlfriend for me to blindly support her. For all we know she could be innocent or guilty. She may be a serial killer for all I care. That isn't the point. I believe in a civilized society and in democracy, there should be legitimate ways of determining guilt or non-guilt. We should go by what the judiciary says rather than depend on ill-informed emotional knee-jerk reactions." Mincing no words and displaying a fearlessness that could prompt Salman Khan to cast him in Dabangg 2, Ramu says he won't tolerate political 'goondaism'. "In the pretext of getting justice, if people resort to goondaism it is completely unacceptable to me, as it should be to any right-thinking citizen." Ramu says this is why he trotted down to the police station. "As a free citizen of India, I lodged a police complaint against the BJP's threat issued to me." Now Ramu's movements are somewhat restricted by the tight security cordon. "You don't worry about me. You got a sensational story. Be happy," is the irrepressible Ramu's parting shot.
