The best and worst iPods from the last 15 years

These days, the iPhone and iPad are Apple’s bread and butter. But before they arrived on the scene to help Apple become the largest technology company in the world, the iPod was the shining star.

The original iPod was released exactly 15 years ago on Oct. 23, 2001. Steve Jobs’s pitch was simple: 1,000 digital songs in a sleek device about the size of a deck of cards.

Then with the iTunes Store, Apple revolutionized and legitimized music downloads. As the iPod grew more popular and opened up to support Windows, Apple added more models (Nano, Shuffle and Touch). The rest is history.

Tom Hanks brings back 'Sully' to fight with Alec Baldwin on 'SNL'

Sully is one of the biggest movies of the fall so far, and Tom Hanks is likely to get an Oscar nod for his portrayal of Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the now-retired airline pilot who saved a plane full of passengers with his expert Hudson River water landing in 2009.

The real Sully may be retired, but Hanks’ Sully is getting back into flying… and he’s a real jerk about it, too, as Alec Baldwin quickly learns.

Despite having her personal information hacked this summer, Leslie Jones has already proven that she doesn’t intend to let online harassment get her down.

On this week’s Saturday Night Live, she offered a perfect response to her hackers during Weekend Update.

At first, Jones downplayed the severity of the hack, telling Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost, “All they did was release some nude pics of me. Which is nothing because, I don’t know if y’all know this about me, but I ain’t shy.”

“I am very comfortable with who I am. I am an open book. I keep my porn in a folder labeled ‘porn.’ If you want to see Leslie Jones naked, just ask,” she added, looking around hopefully at the audience. “Just. Ask.” …

Doctors relax rules on letting babies watch screens

Ever since 1999, many pediatricians have clung to one main recommendation about kids and gadgets: you shouldn’t show screens to any child under 2 years old. However, they’ve just loosened that once-firm policy. The American Academy of Pediatrics has… – Source

Taylor Swift sings 'This Is What You Came For' in concert for the first time, crushes it

AUSTIN — It was Taylor Swift’s first concert of 2016, and so, in addition to
playing her hits, she had some recent business to catch up on.

Sitting behind a sparkly piano about two thirds of the way through her Formula 1 show Saturday evening, Swift teased that she wanted to try something new.

Cue those “oh oh oohs” from Nils Sjoberg as she played the familiar chorus of the Rihanna/Calvin Harris hit that she co-wrote. (Harris and Swift, of course, were dating at the time the song was written and
aren’t any longer. So you understand why it is quite the scandalous treat she decided to play it in concert.) …

Internet of Things gets its zombie apocalypse, and this is just the beginning

Winter is here. The Internet of Things (IoT) winter, that is.

All those digital routers, DVRs, “smart” kitchen appliances and IP-enabled cameras you assumed were innocuous as they worked away in the background of your life are rising up like zombies at the behest of the Night’s King of Game of Thrones.

And like the fictional, aforementioned zombie army, it seems there’s little we can do to stop the next big distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, fueled by the malware dubbed Mirai — a word that appropriately means “the future” in Japanese.

But is this latest zombie-flavored hacking attack really “the future” for the Internet of Things? …

You damn well should care about the AT&T and Time Warner deal

If you’re not a media wonk, it can be hard to really care about things like the $80 billion deal between AT&T and Time Warner. But you should. You definitely should.

Time Warner has a lot that TV, movies and sports people love. Enjoy Game of Thrones? TW owns HBO. Like the NBA? TW has that on TNT. Into DC Comics movies? TW owns Warner Bros. movies.

AT&T, on the other hand, mostly operates wireless, telephone and cable networks touching millions of Americans.

These two companies are already huge on their own. Together, AT&T and Time Warner would form one of the most powerful media companies in the world, making a serious impact on the overall market as well as what ends up being offered to consumers. …

Huawei Mate 9 Pro will come with a dual-curved 5.9" QHD display

Curves, curves everywhere. The Mate 9 Pro will be the dual-edge version of Huawei’s high-end phablet to be unveiled in a couple of weeks. So far known as Long Island, this tricked out model will offer QHD resolution as opposed to the 1080p of Manhattan (Mate 9 proper).

Daydream has been the incentive here – Google’s VR feature will only be supported on the Mate 9 Pro, and not the vanilla version. Not surprising, really – 1080p resolution stretched to 6 inches, and you’ll certainly be counting pixels, instead of enjoying VR.
