3 V-Day dinners that you'll love no matter what your relationship status

Whether you celebrate it or not, February 14 can set up lots of expectations — we have decades of romantic comedies to thank for that. The typical date — say, a candlelit, Italian dinner — always sounds like a solid way to bring the romance. But the reality of chowing down on a garlicky, carb-filled meal will leave anyone in a decidedly less flirty mood.

Instead of relying on a fancy restaurant, why not take matters into your own hands? Your V-Day menu can really impact how your evening plays out, whether you’re single, in a new relationship, or with a long-term partner — and when you make it at home, you can be sure it’s packed with the right date-friendly nutrients. And a home-cooked meal is always an impressive move! Here are three scientifically proven to help you have the best night ever, plus food sources and recipes to help you load up. …

L.A. to pay a white ex-employee $3.8 million for racial discrimination

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously this week to award $3.8 million to a white city parks worker who alleged he suffered years of abuse and discrimination at the hands of his Latino boss.

A former gardener with the Department of Parks and Recreation for almost 20 years, James Duffy sued the city in 2011 for discrimination, harassment and retaliation based on race and disability. A jury ruled in favor of Duffy in 2014, and the California state appeals court affirmed the decision this summer

According to court documents filed by Duffy’s attorney, the discrimination began in 2001 when Duffy was assigned a new foreman, senior park maintenance supervisor Abel Perez. Perez allegedly began harassing Duffy and making racist remarks, including “I hate white people,” the documents show …

Google finally decides to shut down Picasa, sort of

Amazingly, Google’s Picasa photo service still exists. You probably thought that with the big launch of Google Photos last year Picasa would have been put out of its misery, but no. Not then, anyway.

After a long time of analyzing the situation, the search giant has finally decided to “retire” Picasa and focus on Google Photos. Which obviously makes perfect sense, unlike running two different photo services at the same time. That said, Google still hasn’t actually said when Picasa will be gone forever, just that the process will take several months.

The Picasa desktop application will no longer be supported starting on March 15. It will keep working after that date, but won’t be updated anymore. On the other hand, the web service will remain unchanged until May 1. And even after that, you’ll still be able to view, download, or delete your albums, you just won’t be able to create, organize, or edit albums anymore.

Perhaps rather confusingly, you can always go to Google Photos and see your photos and videos from Picasa over there. Since this is the case, it’s really unclear why it’s taking Google this long to shut down Picasa for good. Anyway, expect some more news about this on or around May…
