Samsung Galaxy S7 edge burns while charging overnight

While a defective battery has forced Samsung to order the recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units everywhere but China (a different battery is employed there), a consumer who owns the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has reported that his unit burnt while he was charging it. This gentleman claims to have been sleeping at the time of the incident, and reportedly used the handset’s original charging equipment.

Do we think that this is related to what is going on with the Galaxy Note 7 recall? Absolutely not. The two phones use different batteries and besides, the Galaxy S7 edge has already been available … – Source

Yep, Asus's ZenBook 3 is a total MacBook copycat

BERLIN — Every PC maker copied Apple’s MacBook Air and now they’re back at it again with clones of Apple’s 12-inch MacBook.

Asus’s new ZenBook 3, unveiled at IFA 2016, is the most blatant copycat of them all. It looks virtually identical to Apple’s MacBook, except for the fact it runs Windows 10 and not OS X (soon to be called macOS).

The ZenBook 3 was on display at Microsoft’s booth so I decided to do a quick examination and see how deep the copying went.

Let’s just say it’s pretty damn similar…on the outside.

The aluminum ZenBook weighs two pounds — same as the MacBook and has the same two-port combination of a single USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack (Asus just switched them to different sides). …

Cinemapocalypse Now?

Let’s talk box office! Because it’s one of my pet obsessions; I’ve long been curious how the rise of new entertainment tech (Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Pokémon Go) will impact movies, our oldest and most storied cultural commons. And because I was trawling through Box Office Mojo’s numbers, as you do, and happened to stumble across something which makes me fear for… Read More

Narcos: Cartel Wars game lands on mobiles: drugs, guns and … mariachi

Gaumont Television and FTX Games announced a few months ago they plan to launch the Narcos official mobile game this fall. Fans of Netflis’s crime drama will be pleased to know that the game is now out on both the Android and iOS platforms.

Dubbed Narcos: Cartel Wars, the mobile game is much less violent than the show. However, expect to be able to produce and distribute drugs on the West Coast, or crush your rival cartels by sending teams of assassins to get rid of other drug lords in your turf.

Samsung Galaxy Note7 launched in China as units contain battery from different supplier

Samsung might have issued a global recall of Galaxy Note7 units over battery fire hazard, but that hasn’t stopped the company from launching the handset in China, where the 4GB RAM variant is now available for purchase.

Turns out Galaxy Note7 units destined for China are immune from the battery problem as they contain battery from a different supplier. This was revealed by the company in a press release, asking users in China to “rest assured.”

Following is the translated version of what the South Korean company said:

Cops trying new ways to spot those texting and driving

Cops are trying new tactics to catch drivers illegally texting and driving at the same time. Sure, some of these tricks are being used to write tickets to drive revenue; but the truth of the matter is that real people are getting killed by these distracted drivers. Last year in the mainland U.S. and Puerto Rico, there were 3,500 deaths attributed to distracted driving, according to the NHTSA. That was up from 3,200 such deaths in 2014.

If we focused on those cases where the distraction was a cellphone, the number of deaths rose 17% from 406 in 2014 to 476 last year. And the real … – Source

Sony Xperia XZ vs Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge vs Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs LG G5: quick camera comparison

The Sony Xperia XZ is the star of the show at IFA 2016: it’s actually the only flagship-level device announced at the show, so it has little competition at Europe’s largest tech expo.
However, when you look at it at broader perspective, the Sony Xperia XZ is hardly alone in the battle for customer’s attention and dollars. And only in comparison with its flagship rivals, we can really understand how good the Xperia XZ really is.
Sony has huge ambitions with its XZ camera, but are they justified? One thing that Sony has been particularly … – Source
