Ford creates 'Drug Driving Suit' that recreates driving impairment


Ford wants to demonstrate to young drivers just how dangerous it can be to drive while under the influence of illegal drugs. So it paired with scientists at the Meyer-Hentschel Institute in Germany to create a “Drug Driving Suit” that recreates the physical impairment caused by drugs including cannabis, cocaine, heroin and MDMA (a.k.a “Molly”).

When strapped on, the suit creates tunnel vision with special goggles, plays random and distracting sounds through headphones, generates hand-tremors and adds weights that throw off balance. As you can see in the video above, even professional drivers found driving a car at slow speeds virtually impossible. Moreover, tasks as straightforward as catching a large ball proved difficult. …
