Hackers claim $1 million for discovering iOS security hole

Zero-day exploits, or security vulnerabilities that haven’t been publicly disclosed, are rare in Apple’s iOS due to the platform’s solid security foundations. Once a genuine one is discovered, it’s often worth a lot of money — especially if the person who uncovered it decides to sell it to an interested, wealthy third party like a government organization or corporation.


Case in point: Zerodium, a exploit acquisition platform, awarded $1 million to a team of hackers as part of a contest to infiltrate the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
