There's a controversial selfie with cow contest in India


An organisation in the city of Kolkata has just concluded a selfie contest with cows to raise awareness about the politically controversial topic of cow protection and slaughter in India. The campaign comes at the end of a year when the consumption and sale of beef has become a polarising issue in the country.

The Go Seva Parivar started the month-long campaign in November, inviting people to post selfies with cows and the hashtag #selfiewithgomata on Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. Cows are considered sacred in Hinduism, and referred to as gau mata (“mother cow”). …
