A powerful new report by the New York Times is analyzing the deep sexism that cuts through Hollywood
Interviewing over 100 men and women in the industry, reporter Maureen Dowd traced movie history and gathered dozens of shocking anecdotes from numerous female directors and showrunners about their experience in the industry. Interestingly enough, Dowd notes the film world as we know it today that fails to give women a chance all started with Jaws in 1975.
“America fell in love with the blockbuster, and Hollywood got hooked on the cohort of 15-year-old boys,” she writes. “It has never wavered in this obsession, even though girls and women buy half the movie tickets and watch more TV series, and even though teenage boys are increasingly fixated on gaming.” …
