Lawyers, consultants and investment bankers pride themselves on putting in 12-hour days, and those of us who can get by working eight hours consider ourselves lucky


What most people don’t know is that the eight-hour workday is an outdated standard that was first introduced in 1866. In 1914, Henry Ford cut the workday in half to boost productivity and reduce turnover among factory workers.


Unfortunately, the eight-hour workday hasn’t budged since. Never mind that the Information Age represents the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution and that family structures have changed dramatically since the early 1900s. …
