Australian student harassed in India for sporting a tattoo of local goddess

An Australian couple have been through a harrowing experience in India after locals took offence to a tattoo on the man’s leg and threatened to skin it off.


Mathew Keith Gordon and Emily Kassianou came to the southern Indian city of Bengaluru as part of a trip across India. On Saturday, they were harassed by a mob while dining at a local restaurant over a tattoo of the Hindu goddess Yellamma on Gordon’s shin.


According to report in The Hindu, the group even threatened to skin Gordon’s leg to remove the tattoo


Gordon and Kassianou, who are both students from Melbourne, were then escorted to a local police station in Ashok Nagar. Though Gordon had not broken any laws, he was detained until he agreed to give a written apology, the outlet reported. Meanwhile, a video of the incident also surfaced on YouTube. …
