Urthecast, an imaging startup in Vancouver, B.C., today released the first full-color HD video from the International Space Station, bestowing us terrans with gorgeous views of the Earth heretofore available only to astronauts and Jack Bauer types. Urthecast installed its high-resolution Iris cameras onto the ISS (217 miles up) on a platform that allows it to point the cameras in almost any direction and track ground targets in 60- to 90-minute shots. Its camera shoot in 4K or UHD full-color resolution, crisp enough to pick out the Statue of Liberty or individual heads in the stands of a soccer stadium. – Source
