Oscar Money Watch: 'How To Train Your Dragon 2' Could Really Use A Win

DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 is one of the best films of 2014. It is (in my opinion) the best animated feature of last year. It was also the biggest-grossing animated feature of 2014, with a worldwide cume of $618 million. It is probably the best film that DreamWorks Animation has yet made out of its thirty animated features, with the caveat that I still utterly adore Kung Fu Panda 2. So even if The LEGO Movie (which also made my best-of list) had gotten into this category as expected I would still be rooting for Toothless and his friends. It is a superb sequel that seamlessly expands the world, deepens the mythology, and ups the stakes while still telling a stand-alone story of uncommon power and scale. If we want to make the case that films like How to Train Your Dragon 2 represents the kind of films that DreamWorks Animation should be making, then we should hope that it triumphs tonight accordingly. … – Source
